I love to read for an hour before bed, but have a terrible habit of simply dropping my book between the bed and the wall when I'm ready to sleep! In the spirit of fresh starts and being, you know, reasonable, I installed a found drawer next to my bed to hold all my nighttime reading material...
The dresser drawer was found on the street, and after a very thorough cleaning seemed perfect for...something. A bedside bookshelf! The size of the drawer is perfect- generous enough to hold a good selection of books, but small enough to fit in the small remaining space in my bedroom (really just half the kitchen). At first the bevels and handle on the top of the bookshelf annoyed me, but now I see them as built-in clutter preventers. If I'm really honest, the drawer usually contains lotion & such as well as books, but nobody wants to see that!

Ooh, good idea, especially since I have limited space in my tiny bedroom for a bedside table...
looks nice!
you can also screw them onto the wall for a quick and eclectic wall shelving unit
Very cute, I wonder if it wouldn't look even better with some little legs.

A little work and I think you'd have something. I'd remove the handle, add some screw on bun type legs, then paint or stain it. Right now though, it looks like what it is, a drawer sitting on it's side. It works for you, that's all that matters, though.
What a great idea!
Smart idea, especially since books get lost easily unless there's a designated space for them to be stored.
Agree with KaBoomBOX, very nice start, but needs honing. Also, for me I need a place to put a glass of water and that probably wouldn't do.
Great idea but I'd get rid of the handle.
I think this is a great idea. And remember, not all drawers have that much raised detail. I think it's a great way to use broken down old furniture. Suppose you have a dresser with missing drawers? With a little bit of work certain styles could be converted to bookshelves or entertainment centers.
yes..cute and quirky idea..the best!
Sadly it looks like what it is right now - just a junky drawer. I'd be tempted to first give it a good cleaning, put some small legs or wheels on it, and then possibly even getting a piece of glass or pexiglass cut for the top.
I think its a neat idea, but would work better without the drawer handle sticking up. Also, what would you use for a reading light? I don't see one anywhere?
suzy8track & dirce79- Thanks for reminding me! I forgot to mention that I have a proper bedside table at the foot of the bed. It holds my lamp, water carafe & glass, and glasses, but cannot accommodate the piles of books that inevitably build up!
