I love to watch the evolution of people's spaces. As soon as you remodel or paint one thing you begin to think about what you would have done differently and what you can do next. Katy from Mom and Her Drill has documented her kitchen as she painted it, and repainted it over time. Without any major renovations she had changed up her kitchen in a sustainable way more than once. Check it out after the jump.
Immediately after moving in Katy knew she needed to make a change. By adding some wood accents that make parts of the pieces look more furniture like, removing an upper cabinet, installing open shelving and painting the cabinets she made the look fit her personality much better than the builder basic had before.

After a while she got tired of the green and decided to tone it down with cool blue grey color. Amazing how a bit of paint can change a space so much.

Check out the complete transformation at Mom and Her Drill.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Katy did a lot of painting! I love the gray lower cabinets. Great job!
Brilliant idea, removing the single cabinet and replacing it with shelves. And the table leg(?) or bannister(?) additions below the sink are a great touch.
Beautiful!! I'd love to have my kitchen look like this eventually!
Wow! Paint has really changed the space!!!
Love the grey - not so sure about that curtain though....
Curtain looks like what I do when deciding on a fabric - tack it up and live with it before investing in the shade or cornice...
The before photo of your kitchen is ironically very similar to mine and when I see the great job you did with your cabinets I am more determined to change mine. I rent, but have an open-ended "okay" to make improvements. This would be an improvement.
I love the little legs too...did you buy a table leg and saw it in half?
oh eek! If I'd known someone was going to repost this I would have taken down that fabric over the window LOL!
The legs on the sink: you can saw a table leg in half, but in my case it was two legs that I had to saw 3/4 off -- I wanted the foot of the leg to be complete so it looked more "real". (sorry if this is confusing, maybe I'll post about that)
I like pic of the first "after", the second "after" is a little hard for me to judge due to the random piece of fabric partially attached over the window, the sink full of dishes, and the fact that the pic doesn't show how the gray contrasts with the floor. The knobs and handles are a BIg improvement on the drawers and doors. In either "after" I would have like to see maybe a fun or coordinating through rug at the sink maybe for some added color. Nice Job(s)
I love this!!!! My kitchen is so similar to the "before" and now I can visualize an "after" worth the effort.
The legs are a FABULOUS idea that I have to copy. Well done, Katy79. *mwaah*
Wow -- great job both times!
Nicely done! I'm impressed by the tile job :)
How did you get the texture on the cabinet doors? I have the same cabinets and I have been debating whether to modify them or replace them. I love the fact that you can add a few bits of trim and cover the whole thing with paint and it looks like it was built that way.
Also new counters and sink aren't there?
I love the third (even with the dirty dishes that seemed to bother some people :P), but I do have to agree on the fabric. It looks like a temporary thing? You can definitely do better!
What method did you use to paint the cabinets? I've heard it is A LOT of work and am so impressed you tackled the project twice -- with beautiful results!
I'm impressed with the fact you could pin some fabric over the window, leave a sink of dirty dishes and it still looks fab.
This is great.
Lovely! My kitchen is very similar to your before, and I have been contemplating painting white uppers and grey lowers, so you basically just decided that for me! :)
How did you add the texture to the cabinets? Also, did you just tile over the existing laminate counter tops?? Dying to know!
Love the effect of this relatively low-budget make-over. I really like the soft blue-grey kitchen with shiny backsplash tiles. Hmmm.
Wow!
It would be extrememly helpful to know what products you used to do these paint jobs.
Thank you.
