With thoughtful design and an ability to take advantage of light incredibly well, the folks over at Design with ADD have make a dramatic impact on their tiny kitchen.
Here are their thoughts on the design:
Because we opted not to move the 75 sq. ft. galley kitchen in our Brooklyn brownstone apartment, it didn’t get much bigger. But it did get taller when we raised the ceiling and built our cabinets sky high for extra storage. And it got cleaner when we opted to paint the shaker cabinets white and to keep the overall color palette muted. It’s definitely brighter since we swapped out the old door to our deck for a single pane glass one. It even feels wider because we replaced a chunky old clunker of a fridge with a sleek counter-depth model. Our cabinets and hardware are deliberately simple. We chose custom panels for our appliances so that they would disappear into the cabinet wall. We took a pass on the professional hood trend (which I think can look great in larger kitchens) and instead installed a discreet but powerful exhaust fan in the ceiling above our new range. We even tucked the microwave under the counter in order to keep the eye level lines clean and unbroken.
Impressive.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I would love a kitchen just like this! We have a galley kitchen that needs re-doing so this is very inspiring. I used to want a bigger kitchen, but now I enjoy the smaller space. It makes for less clean up, and it forces me to edit what I keep in there. Thanks for sharing the pictures!
Beautiful job.
Question I noticed the stove doesn't stick out into the doorway now. Is it the doorway or the counter and stove that are narrower now?
I also have a small galley kitchen--63 sq. ft--that I will be renovating. Do you mind my asking what fridge, dishwasher, stove, and microwave you installed?

sorry, that should be THEY...
What a lovely little kitchen, very inspiring for such a small space!
really interested in the shelving in the 'after' picture.
can anyone track it down?
Does anyone know how that exposed brick look was achieved? Doesn't seem to be there in the before picture.
@tonhouse
guessing it was underneath the dry wall.
Wowza, this is impressive! So crisp and airy. Nice work!
What an improvement! I had claustrophobia just looking at the photo of the original space.
A beautiful, well thought out job.
Did you also knock out part of the wall where the outside door is and build in a step? It looks like you had a box, or something, there in the the before pic.
I used to think I wanted a big kitchen, until I lived in a tiny cottage with a little galley kitchen. I ended up loving it! Everything was a step or two away, and it took next to no time to clean it. I've recently moved in with my mom to take care of her, and she has a big kitchen. It seems like the messes are bigger, too! I'll definitely be looking for a very small kitchen when the time comes to move on.
