What would you do if you had 1 day and $1000 to transform your outdoor space? Favorite Design Star winner Emily Henderson has taken her talents outdoors and put her touch on this once very bare and sad patio. Here are some of her awesome, stylish and thrifty tips.
Emily is best known for her styling and amazing room transformations. So she treated this patio like her other projects: as an (outdoor) room. She broke down the project into three major components that the room would need: furniture, lighting and accessories.
All of the furniture was thrifted, or reworked pieces that the client already owned. She added a ton of color with flowers and plants, a bounty of pillows and a hot pink recycled plastic outdoor rug, which also helped define the room. Rather than waste her budget on new planters, she transformed flea market galvanized bins into planters by simply drilling holes in the bottom (20 pots for $150!). Tree stumps with casters cleverly drilled into the bottom were used as coffee tables, side tables and extra seating. Lastly, string lights were hung around the patio to add ambience.
Emily has more process photos and really great styling, gardening and budget tips on her blog, as well as video of the transformation over on HGTV.
