Is it just me or do the most wonderful things seem to happen when someone says 'I think I'm just going to do this my way...' This is what happened when Kris decided to buy a 1964 caravan, break all the rules, buy next to nothing new and make it her own.Kris Wade is the owner of The Best Little Vintage Van In Vegas, and the tiny caravan which functions as a change room, market stall, house for all things vintage and holiday home shows what can be achieved when you get creative and think outside the box.
With the exception of a professional external paint job all the work was done by Kris, family and friends:
- The carpet was ripped out and the floor, walls and ceiling were painted white.
- The outside of the van was cleaned; the silver aluminium panel on the front was replaced and all the external screws were replaced with stainless steel screws.
- Inside, The cupboard doors were removed and painted hot pink, the aluminium window frames were scrubbed clean and the curtains, cushion covers and decoration were made by hand. The retro/kitschy accessories rotate according to Kris' mood.
The colours are unbelievable and as Kris says 'They never fail to make me smile.' So who says pink and red don't work together? Who says you can't pair stripes with polka dots? Who says you can't have a pink kitchen with yellow curtains and a green table cloth if that's what you want? Her advice:
If you love what you are doing, the minor tribulations and challenges will be long forgotten when you can look at something you have created from an initial vision to the final reality. Keep persevering.
