We've seen many an Ikea RAST makeover on Apartment Therapy, but mine involves the cheaper, shorter version with no drawers. The company considers it a nightstand, and I have two that have served that function in two apartments. Recently, I bought new nightstands and found myself needing something taller for a different spot. I decided to re-purpose those makeover-able RASTs.

The before shot, from when I decided to paint the RASTs blue last year, shows the original pine. Ready for change, I started by stacking the two nightstands and joining them with metal braces (inside the shelf with my slippers). My mom, a more patient spray painter than I am, painted them white. To make the new, taller RAST look more unified, I added some decorative paper (protected by contact paper) to the sides. With baskets from the Container Store, this new piece of furniture holds my bath robe, slippers, and bedroom odds and ends.

LOVE! I've also been tempted to use paper and protect it with contact paper, but I fear bubbles. I imagine you worked very carefully. Great job!
Cute!
This looks incredible- I've never been a fan of the unfinished look of the RAST... but this has looks so polished!
Ive always wanted to stack mine to do this in college. great job!
Great job!
"The company considers it a nightstand..."
Hahaha, that was funny!
That looks great! I did a similar makeover with an ikea Billy bookcase, but I used wallpaper. You can see it here.
Brilliant!
Thanks, guys! (And, yeah, it makes an alright nightstand only if you have a veryy low bed.)
NICE! I think I'm going to try this one!
As a college kid sleeping on a mattress and boxspring on the floor, the RAST was totally my nightstand :)
Years later we still have it, but as an assist for our fat kitty to jump up on the high windowsills. Kitty might be mad, but the way you've re-envisioned it seems like a better idea!
Great job. Nice print above it as well.
Your Billy is uber cool too, Piewacket! In fact your whole place is a delight.
what colour is your wall? im looking for a very similar shade and i never like it when it hits the wall- but i love yours!
Beautiful!
nice! I have two of these, already painted but they are still rather silly looking on their own...this is a GREAT idea! I'm on it
Gorgeous.
CaseyinTO, the color is "Nimbus Cloud" in the Martha Stewart Living line.
