The painting and transforming of dressers and credenzas has almost become a sport in recent years, but more often than not, such makeovers depend on a crazy paint job that's been taped off and painted wacky color. Today, the hardware in this change straight up steals the show.
Although this dresser did receive a new coat of paint (and it's far better for it), it also received new hardware. Often times old hardware is spray painted to give things a new look, but in this case, it was out with the old and in with the new.
The bright orange knobs from Anthropologie are simply stunning and although you might walk in and scoff at their price tag sometimes (well, I do anyway), it was money well spent in this transformation of a basic piece to something that will be in the family for many more years. That's just fab.
wasn't expecting the orange and gray - i love it! great job
Very nice job on the gray - it doesn't look too slick or too distressed - excellent brushwork!
Antropologie knobs are ridiculously expensive, but worth it. I redid an armoire and used knobs from Anthropologie. For the same price as a dozen knobs, I could have bought an entirely new dresser from Ikea. However, the knobs make me smile and get all kinds of "ooohhh" reactions from friends.
Kind of nice, yeah, but I prefer the "before" version....
Love those colors! Trying to think where I can apply this in my own home.
Preemptively calling out the horde of "how could you?!?" and "I liked it better before" people: It was a drab, nothing-special, beat up chest of drawers like you might find in some lonely old person's house, not a Mid-Century masterpiece worth restoring. It looks better now.
It does look better now, but I might have gone one further and modified the legs/kick plate to get rid of the scrolly nonsense.
Usually, I am a restorer and not a renovator, but that original was pretty fug. I like the redo much better.
Smart work! But I want to see it taken a step further somehow.
Gorgeous! And another horse! They are following me.

Finally a before and after I like. Not even my style but the colors are so awesome together and it was so truly butt ugly before.... great job!
Just FYI, I've seen similar knobs to what Anthropologie sells at Pier 1. I have no idea what the quality is on the knobs from either store, but just thought I'd throw it out there for people on a budget. :)
This dresser looks like Rosie from The Jettsons.
I happen to like the before, now!
the after is great, but for the knobs.
hep look after.
what wood is this?
The after looks so boring and generic. Yikes.
What is with the Reader's Digest Condensed Books on top of the "after"? It's not fun enough to be a good ironic statement, and as a non-ironic statement, it says "The knowledge I want to display is cheapened versions of things that barely merited a glance eons ago." There is no excuse for these books in decor, is there? I'm in earnest; somebody explain this.
