One of the best places to score vintage goodies are estate sales, and if the price is really right, sometimes you bring home a piece that needs some hardcore resuscitation to earn a spot in your home. Well, Hanni and Jesse gave this cute little chair a second life...
Here is the scoop on the project:
My name is Hanni Liliedahl and my husband Jesse Silacci and I make up lilify, specializing in floral and jewelry design. We are currently renovating our home/soon to come brick and mortar store (a two story, mixed use building = Jesse and Hanni on top, lilify on bottom) located in downtown Monterey, California.
This is a chair that we found at an estate sale. We loved the lines of the chair, however it was particularly in need of some loving. After Hanni searched for the perfect fabric, the ever talented seamstress, Kim Forbes, used the old chair as a pattern and pieced together the new version, along with some necessary bandaging up of the arms. Then we reassembled the piece to create this fabulous, modern take on polka dots.
Looks great, thanks for sending, Hanni!

Adorable, did you re-upholster yourself?
charmed!
Awww, the chair in the before picture looks so sad and perplexed at its dishonorable state of disarray. Now it looks happy!
Adorable is the right word; looks great!

Great job! I would have chosen an other pattern and colour for the fabric, but the improvement is evident!
Did you replace the cushion or any of the foam on the back of the chair or is that the original, just re-covered? I assume you added foam where the damage was.
Nice job, but not a fan of that fabric. I think a plain color or tweed would suit the lines better. But if it makes you happy...
Sweet! Looks great!
I like the colour of the fabric - it suits the dark wood of the feet - but I agree that the pattern isn't the best. It disrupts the beautiful organic curves of the chair.
Still, it's a nice sympathetic job for a sad old piece of furniture.
Wow, I have a chair shaped somewhat similarly to this. Mine isn't in that bad of condition, but I would kill to have any of the skills or knowledge to reupholster with an updated fabric!
I agree with others in that my first response was "nooo that pattern is WAY too much here!" If it were me I probably would have gone with something a lot softer-looking and more plain, but I do think that if this was used as an accent piece in a room that was very dominantly flat/monochrome, I could see this working pretty well in that context.
aw so cute! good estate sale finds make us so happy!
cheers,

Love that chair! I love solids better but this is a very distinctive touch!
yes!
I have that same chair. My parents bought it from Daytons in the 1960s. We have the matching sofa, too. Mine have be recovered twice - from 60s green to 70 orange floral to 90s black. Now I need to cover in something that matches my dog!
