We know, we know—not many people have the room or money for a guest house, but we think this project in a South Austin home can be inspirational for anyone facing a small and kind of boring room. Designer Sally Breer took a minimalist approach to furnishings, deciding not to fill up this small space too much, but rather choosing pieces that would have a big impact. A vintage couch, footstools and other pieces ensure that the space has personality.
She also mixed in more modern pieces to give the space a youthful appearance, and did a great job picking out light fixtures that would pack a punch of boldness. The fur throw brings in a lot of texture to the space, warming it up, and a cowhide rug anchors the bed to the space. We sure would feel welcome in this room, whether or not it was a guest house or our own home!

This worked out very well. The white trim ties it all together and I ADORE the bedside lanterns! Nice job.
it certainly helps that no photos of the hideous air conditioning unit are left out.
The only thing that would make me leave this amazing guesthouse would be...uh..uh..BEDBUGS!
I LIKE the fur throw and 70's swag lamps! It gives the room more character than the typical Pottery Barn show piece.
The lamps don't say '70s to me, they say "North African" I love the feeling of warmth this room has.
The lanterns don't really seem that cohesive and the couch doesn't seem to fit in either.
So cool! I love the textures, colors, lamps, rug... everything.
It is better overall, but something is a bit off - I think it's the texture of the bedspread competing against the texture of the hide rug. I think the color palette is a winner though!
AT - I triple dog dare you to post a place without a hide rug!
Ooh, I love this. But yes, I agree with others, the couch adds dissonance to an otherwise awesome room.
Meh. Not a fan of the fur throw in this situation. (I'm not against them in general, I just don't care for the look in this space.) The space leaves me flat. Not sure why, although I do think the closet doors need to be white like the rest of the trim. Maybe the problem (for me) is that the yellow and the gray are too close in value, giving a washed out monochrome effect.
I think the space would benefit from something in a stronger color -- maybe a glossy black dresser or a bright red-orange pillow...
Love those lamps, are they a thrift find? If not where did you get them?
can you tell me where you got (or how you made) those bedside tables? i love that they say SLEEP.
I doubt you can read by those awful 70s lanterns.
Love the parsons white desk - do you know where I can find it?
