On the subject of rethinking urban density and living small, we love the idea of transforming garages into homes. It's the ultimate small space upgrade, and this example is quite charming. Artist Michelle de la Vega turned an unremarkable garage into her 250 square foot dream home, all for only $32,000!
After going through a recent divorce Michelle de la Vega decided it was time to downsize and simplify her life. She transformed a garage into her dream home — a fully functional living space with a sleeping loft. Much of the structure consists of reclaimed, reused and recycled materials and object and de la Vega even went to welding school to learn how to create metal furniture and fixtures on her own. The end result is a bright, beautiful and artistic space to call, 'home'. See the full transformation, and more of de la Vega's work, at her website.

Sprout Side Table
Oh, oh, oh- I could so do this. While the American dreamers are finishing there basements, I'm dreaming of small spaces like this. The only thing I'd really miss is an oven, but I'm sure I could figure out.
P.S. I do hope she actually lives there, or I'll be bitter.
Oh, beautiful! I'm with you Daleth. All I want is a small, well thought out, and beautifully appointed space.
On six acres with a creek.
Small home, big space. Stuff of daydreams, no?
I have plans to replace my garden shed with a similar 1-room-house, to be used for guests or an art studio, but I've been secretly thinking perhaps _I_ could live there and rent out the main house - well - I'm impressed and now I have a model. This is definitely on my to do list to see if it's legal in my area.
This like two years old.
Am in lurve with this...but I would need an actual stove of some kind. Perfect for a newbie, right out of college or first time home owner.
Win!
