All that glitters is not gold, but this IKEA customization project is DIY treasure in my eyes for its affordably ingenious transformation of a Swedish modern piece customized into a glamorous Hollywood Regency inspired desk...
The surprisingly strong IKEA LERBERG table legs are rated to support over 110 lbs, sufficient to hold up a glass table top*, and are the foundation of Morgan McCollum's desk makeover:
I have been searching for a desk for my new studio in Lawrenceville for weeks. Everything was either overpriced crap or the same old, same old. My style is pretty Hollywood Regency and I have been gushing for gold lately...I grabbed a glass of wine, effortlessly assembled and spray painted them gold. For the top, I had a spare piece of glass sitting around, so I used that.
The pièce de résistance is the gold leaf glass top, each sheet carefully placed on the underside using Mona Lisa Gold Leafing and adhered with Mona Lisa Gold Leafing Glue. Here's a video showing a similar application of gold leaf to a glass vase for reference:

*One additional recommendation is to use tempered glass as the desk top, a stronger and safer glass surface.
