So you have a filing cabinet. Maybe you found one even. The only problem is, it's a little less than awesome. It's a perfectly good container, so what do you do with it? Well, you turn it into super fabulous garage storage, that's what! Want to see what it looks like now?
Haydee over at the Trash to Treasure blog has flipped this sad, old filing cabinet on its side and painted it red. It has some sassy stripes now, as well as mounted wheels on the bottom. Side storage has been added and it's now a great way to round up garden tools, sports equipment and kids' play equipment if you have an active family.

Shaw's Original Fir...
That's cute, and it's deep enough to hold the tools. Good reuse.
I can't tell from the picture; is it on casters?
Silly question. I should have read the text. The link shows how she added the wheels.
I LOVE this!!
Great idea! I wish I were creative like that.
You could also line each bin with garbage bags and use it as a recycling bin. Love it!
FABULOUS!! I do like BRABECOVA's suggestion on making it a recycle bin. That too is a great idea.
brilliant! darling! bravo!
brilliant indeed! m
some people are so smart! I love this.
SUPER! Best idea of the day.
wow, i love this! truely repurposed, functional, and looks great
Great repurpose!!
so smart!
I was just trying to figure out what to do with the garden tools! This is BRILLIANT!
i've also seen them turned into cool outdoor planters. great idea and nice paint job!
I. LOVE. THIS. SO MUCH. BRILLIANT!
Great idea and execution!
Freaking brilliant.
Excellent and ... not to be redundant, but.... BRILLIANT!!!
Now, if I only had a garage... ;-)
AWESOME!
Oh now this is great! What an awesome re-do!
Fabulous! May use this idea out in the country for my vege patch. Thanks!
Very groovy!
What did you do with the remaining drawers?
Nice paint job and great upcycling project.
It's a clever reuse, but not exactly practical. A series of hangers on the wall would hold all of the same stuff without intruding into the garage.
So yeah, beautifully done, but kinda pointless.
Not really pointless if you don't like hanging large tools on the wall.
The amount-of-work-to-end-result-ratio on this amazes me. A simple change of perspective and voilá! When I get home from work I'm going to turn half my stuff on its head to see if it could be used better for something else. Thanks for sharing!
Have to agree with Blandwagon; it looks good, but not for that purpose. The wall is going to get dinged up and dirty in no time. And, it's still a tangle of tools.
truly clever--thanks for sharing
@SPION: Lol! I'm gonna turn everything upsidedown too. Thanks. :)
COOL! COOL COOL COOL COOL COOL!!!
Since I'm going paperless and scan most of the docs, I really don't need that big old filing cabinet any more. And I DO have those pesky tools that hang out with no place to organize. Thanks for the great idea!
Oh PLEASE. This is totally practical! I feel it would be far more impractical to install so many hanging devices onto the wall. Not only that ,but it would be outrageously cluttered even if you could fit everything onto the wall. SO Impressed by this up-cycle. Great eye and creativity!
I love this idea... so simple!
@ blandwagon
I don't have nearly as many garden tools, so I'm looking at it an thinking: One cubby for the garden tools, one for the sports equipment, one for bags of sand and potting soil, and one for the giant packages of paper products I'm always bringing home from Costco. All nicely contained and off the floor (we have lizards and other crawly things where I live). Hooks on the wall wouldn't help with all that. Thanks for the idea, Trash to Treasure.
GENIUS!
What an awesome idea!
I would put like a lattice on top so that each slot would hold each tool and so nothing would touch the wall. ~just a thought~
