I love the story of this chair makeover, largely because it sounds a lot like my own DIY projects — an equal mix of inspiration, serendipity, and hundreds of staples…

Back in mid-November Christine, of Bijou and Boheme, blogged about picking up these lovely-lined but shabby (and pink!) chairs, along with an inspiration photo of similar chairs covered in fur. Then Christine lived with the chairs while she decided what exactly she wanted to do with them.
Now, this is where the story reminds me of so many of my own DIYs. Last week Christine blogged about standing in line to have some fabric cut for a curtain project when she spied a freshly-arrived bundle of blushy chenille faux fur. Perfect for the chair project and sitting right there, just waiting to be noticed by her! I love it!

I love the juxtaposition of the fluffy fur with the simple curved brass legs. At once hard and soft and also completely unexpected!

Shaw's Original Fir...
fuzziness is happiness!
I like the new fabric. Very chic, but something about the legs I don't like. It seems yellowy.
LOVE.
More proof that contrast is queen.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE!
So chic! Love them! Great job!
there is a face in the fireplace!
I have both thumbs pointing straight up!
I would be interested to learn how the fake fur holds up over time. Wouldn't it get that ratty old stuffed animal look after being sat on repeatedly?
That said, they certainly look great right now.
I totally see the face!
While it wouldn't last two seconds in my house, I have to say I kinda love it!
I would never leave these seats!
Oh gosh, this is the BEST makeover I have ever seen! Bravo!
I love chairs with such legs.
My only concern re the fabric is that if the chairs are truly used the "fur" won't stay very fluffy for long.
That's awesome. Don't remember when I was last so excited about a makeover. Simply delightful.
Maybe use a blow dryer on cool, to fluff?
Eww. Matted and dingy in 3...2...1... (I am usually not a Negative Nelly on here, but...yuck.)
LOVE LOVE LOVE.
Well done, but I love the original cover so much better - more true to the era.
I'd also be worried that these would get yucky quick...
There was nothing wrong with the original. I get it when people recover ripped/worn original upholstery. But this chair? Primo.
Love it. But would be way too worried about stains/matting/dust/etc. to use them.
these are so fun !
love! :)
Prefer the original as well.
I wish there was a picture of the after facing the front as it is in the before. Like it though. Ya, the face in the fireplace...very creepy!
I really liked the original. And it was in such a good condition. It's probably still underneath the furry bit so that when it goes dingy and matted, it can be removed to reveal the pink velvet again :)
I like the new chairs but check out her house...gorgeous!
Hi everyone- thank you so much for the feature Apartment Therapy!!! It was such an awesome surprise!! Thanks as well to those of you who left some great comments about my little DIY. To answer a few of the readers who weren't as fond of my chairs...they are in my living room and are largely decorative...meaning they aren't going to be sat on very often. They cost $30 to do so if the fur gets matty/dingy (which I actually don't think it will because it's so soft and fluffy and it's not the kind the sheds- it's more of a chenille fur) I can just rip it off and do something else- I change up the decor in my often, so these aren't meant to stay 'one look' forever. Also, the original/before photo was taken for scouting purposes and was enhanced by me when I didn't think I'd be able to afford re-upholstery/was planning on keeping them as is. In real life, the pink velvet (which was cheap and no where close to mohair) was very dingy- had black stains and had definitely seen it's day- people who know me are well versed in my addiction to pink- if there had been any way to keep the original, I would have. Anyhoo...to those of you who left nice comments about my project, thank you so so much- I can't tell you how much I appeciate it!! xoxo
Agree that a different fabric would respect the integrity of the design - a charcoal or slate mohair velvet maybe. While cute, the Faux sheepskin reads "Pottery Barn Teen."
It's so FLUFFY! I'm gonna die!
awesome! love me some brassy goodness too.
GAH! the face in the fireplace! Totally see it
I loooove these chairs... want.
Love the fluffly texture. It adds a sense of comfort and warmth to the whole room.
Lovely, and well executed!
I. Die.
I love this makeover...much like others here.
I have a totally unrelated comment. I love this blog as well. However, I wish bloggers would not use the shadow lines on the sides of the pages. It makes the page move oh so slowly. I don't even read blogs that use them cause I can't stand it, even if they have great content. At least I can still get the best projects on AT.
If any bloggers should read this, also please stop using the word "goodness" over and over again. It was only cute for awhile.
I know it is free for me, but as we have seen it is benficial to both reader and blogger (ads and such). Thus, I felt like throwing that out there.
Still a great project and hope she reads this and removes those lines so I can read her blog...please!!!
luckysod...can you tell me what lines you are talking about? Do you mean the borders around each photo? Have you tried reading blogs in Google Chrome? It eliminates slow loading pages.
I will try that. I only have trouble with certain blogs though. I am not a tech type person, more a creative. Thanks for addressing my question!
Save the pink chairs!
Love the new look, DESPISE pink velvet! Yuk! Much improved and loads more fun now!
LUV THE CHAIRS...THEY LOOK SO MUCH LIKE THE LINE "THE PACE COLLECTION BY LEON ROSEN " AND/OR MILO BAUGHMAN...REGARDLESS I LUV THEM!
