Having a food storage area or pantry is a true thing of luxury. But for many it can also be a real headache. But an organized space not only leads to better shopping and food use, it can also add value to your home for very little money. Check out what this pantry looks like now, after the jump!

At first glance this just looked like another pretty pantry. But once you get past the thin molding that was added to the edge of the shelves, the paint that had been applied and the stenciling that was done, you get to the real nitty gritty of the transformation.
Over at House of Smiths they used many great organizational tools and containers in their transformation. They placed all of their baking supplies in an old crate (and even labeled it!), placed things like spice packets in small metal tins and used large cracker jars for bulk items.
Now everything now has a place. Make sure to check out this makeover over at House of Smiths and see the whole thing step by step and photo by photo. It's full of inspiration for every cabinet, cupboard or pantry that might need organizing in your own home.

This pantry makes me smile--very classy. Where did you find your wire basket?
So where did all the appliances on the top shelf go? 'Another storage location' is all I could work out.
99% of a makeover is about removing clutter.
This looks so great! I love repackaging foods into plain containers. It just looks so much nicer. I've slowly been adding glass containers for this type of storage to my kitchen too.
Love the before & adore the after! Wallpaper & paint job are beautiful. Labelling is gorgeous! Glass storage is so beautiful & efficient.
@JaclynS, I agree ... I enjoyed our gradual shift to kitchen glass storage, too. Now we finally have enough ... sighhhhh & exhale.
I almost never comment, but I must here. It seems to me that buying extra containers to store your food just uses more material and costs extra money, unless you buy your food in bulk.
@jillianblairc I see where you're coming from, though for loose baking items like flour or sugar it is so much nicer to have them in a solid container! No flour bags leaking on your shelf, easier to measure scoops for recipes, and no more brown sugar turning into a lumpy brick!
I agree with jillian. Glass and metal containers have saved my pantry too, but we often wash out and reuse glass containers for this stuff instead of buying new containers, unless it's for bigger stuff.
The best thing you can do is take advantage of those fill stations at Whole Foods and other places that have loose grains or cereals. I wish they would stock more food. Use a Snack Taxi nylon produce bag, then transfer it into the container when you get home. No bag is thrown out that way.
The next best thing, as jillian said, is to buy in bulk.
This pantry is FANTASTIC........it's gorgeous. I am attempting (slowly) to make mine look half as good. In fact, check out Shelley's blog, her whole house is great.
@jillianblairc, NitaDC & Emmi, I agree. It felt good to re-use/repurpose glass jars for storage ... well worth the time it took to collect what I needed. I did buy large jars to replace 10-yeqr-old (but, beautiful) silver Tupperware canisters that stored our flour, sugar, etc. In all, I spent $25 on 4 new large cracker jars ($5 each at Target) & a set of 4 used Italian canning jars ($3 for the set). Our Tupperware canisters have been re-purposed for non-perishable kitchen items (cookie cutters, etc.) & laundry items that were once cluttering my drawers & top of my dryer. Glass storage is so organized & preserves food so well.
I absolutely love what they have done. So refreshing and well organised. Love it. I'm collecting images of well organised pantries at the moment to inspire a retrofit of my own - this will be in the collection. Well done. Just Lovely.
The 'after' looks great....but, the 'before' wasn't too bad, either.
@lifeabundant -
Worth the investment - for sure!
Nice JOB!! I would recommend a can roating unit. They come in all sizes. Food rotation just can't get any easier. We go shopping and my kids B-E-G me to put away the groceries! I got mine at a great deal when I attended a home party.
