Take one crowded and outdated bedroom. Make sure it's filled with all of the things that we often don't even "see" anymore in our homes but that make things less restful than they could be: too much furniture, a rumpled bed, overcrowded surfaces...
...and replace it all with a sleek, finished design. That is what KNQ Associates did with this small master bedroom.
Obviously there was construction work done as part of this makeover, but the ideas are good ones for any bedroom to encourage a more calm, restful, uncluttered space:
eliminate the need for side table lamps by installing wall or ceiling fixtures
save surface space by hanging the tv
build-in storage where you can
simplify the bedding
add visual interest without lots of visual "noise" with textured wallpaper.

It would be nice to understand how all the storage issues were dealt with - I didn't see anything on the site about that, just the pix.
You know, it's really nice and clean and modern but it looks like a hotel room. I think maybe it's the mirror flush with the wall. Just needs a little personality I think.
I think it looks like a hotel room also. And not in a way that I would want to have at home...
it kinda feels sterile to me! The whole home seems to not have much personality to it at all. The bedroom and the other rooms feels like an hotel and I agree with the other comment that the photos should of shown how storage was dealt with.
those sheers!, and the patina on the walls, the texture mixed with the cream makes it look very hotel, i'd change the cream to a white and switch the curtains so that they cover only the window.... blinds maybe?
i agree with valleyval, hotel room was my first thought - especially the tv area with the lonely telephone on the sideboard.
Looks like a hotel room rather than someone's home. Its a bit too streamlined and lacks personality.
My first thought was to wonder where they stored their stuff, as well. They lost a lot of storage space.
Did anyone notice the internet outlets on the wall, the A/C unit, and the emergency number listing from the first 2 pictures? Also, I'm willing to bet that TV is anchored to the dresser in the 1st pic. Motel rooms all the way.
hotel room.
definite hotel room vibe. it has no soul.
Yes, I too thought the punchline was going to be that instead of redecorating he just moved into a hotel. (A nice hotel, in fairness)
i just spent several nights in the Wash. DC Marriott on 22nd st. & this room immediately reminded me of it. ok for a short stay but no way for a home. i do appreciate all the cables hidden out of the way & the lighting but some personality, charm, and lived in-ness needs to be injected into this space!
yak.
Where's the fan and AC? Also, can't quite tell but I don't see any bedside tables. I know the lights are in the ceiling, but it would still drive me crazy to not have a place for a book, glass of water, etc. and if you sleep with someone else lamps are much more practical if one person wants light while the other sleeps.
That kid looks like he is mesmerized by the screen saver
oh, maybe start cluttering ... a little. but really you opened it up brilliantly.
guys. all we do is sleep in a bedroom (and dream)
and read
and watch a little TV (and...)
I never thought I'd say this to anyone... get a bigger flat screen... it'll make that cool wallpaper really pop, instead of being a bit of a bully.
definitely looks like a hotel. not personal enough.
Given the choice between the "Before" and the "Hotel-Style After"...
...I'll take the "After" every time.
Those lights above the bed are pretty, but they seem like they might be annoying when one is actually in the bed, no?
i kind of like the hotel room thing though...vacation from self sort of thing, especially if the rest of the home is very styley, idiosyncratic or maximalist.
