When Amy and Chad revamped their kitchen, it left this adjacent little half bathroom seeming like it lacked the couple's colorful style. That's nothing a little planning, patience, and DIY initiative couldn't fix!

With the addition of board and batten trim, new colorful paint, and some accessories, Amy and Chad imprinted their style on this room. I, for one, love the look of the board and batten. It adds a touch of coastal charm to this little room while also brightening it up a bit. The accessories — from the hanging lantern to the painted thrift store stool — add to the charm in this space. And, as you can see in the photo below, even when seen from the adjacent kitchen, the half-bath packs a powerful visual punch.

Nomade Express Slee...
@jeje61 we don't like your link spam.
The "after" is nice but I really like the "before" even more. It was serene.
I have to agree, the "before" was not bad at all. I would have traded the beige walls for white and embraced the minimalism it had going. BUT - what really matters is that the new bathroom suits their style, as it seems like this does.
Lovely!
The only thing I'm iffy on is the sink skirt.... I have had several skirted sinks in my past (actually right now I have a vanity without doors so it sports a seersucker curtain), but there's something not quite right about this.
What I LOVE most is the vignette view from the kitchen.
I love this little make-over. The first picture looks like builder grade boring suburbs. I love how there is some personality to the space.
I would certainly miss the little shelf over the sink. If this were mine, I'd have painted, bought some new towels and been done with it. But that's just me. What they did looks fine.
Wow - the before was completely dullsville...
...it's incredible that they could see past that to get to where they are now - great job!
The fabric hanging from the sink... No. :S
The batten wall is absolutely marvellous - it gives the room instant class.
There may be too many styles and colours going on in the finished product, but that's mostly just dressing. The bones are much improved.
I don't like the white board with the dark wood mirror, so the before photo gets my vote.
Must. Have. Those. Hand Towels.
I like the new wall, but that's it. Much prefer the old mirror, shelf, and lack of fabric under the sink.
People are so rude here that I'd never show any of my remodeling on AT.
I think the update looks good and it's obviously what pleases the homeowner.
Oh man, I LOVED the before. The skirt sink completely warps the style of that gorgeous sink. I love the wainscot that was done on the after. But I prefer the frame less sink of the before, seems more classic. But of course it looks beautiful either way and what's important is that you love it.
The before was a little drab, but there's something not quite right about the after. I think I would've gone with a slightly lower beadboard (love the style of it though) and ditched the sink skirt.
From there I would've gone out and scored some towel rods with a little more oomph so to speak. Love the mirror and the wall color though!
Am afraid I like the first better, too. There's nice things about the re-do, but I'd remove the skirt which is cluttery and the colored towels/books which are providing a "pop" but not in a good way. Needs all white (and fluffy!) towels.
Can't believe people like the before better, it was so boring and standard. I like the contrast of the dark mirror with the white batten and the new color. So much better.
I don't know what you all find so great about the before. The wall-hung sink was the best part of it, and they kept it. I love the after. It has character and it has given me a direction to go in the remodel of our tiny master bath.
I like it a lot. A vast improvement from the before. The skirt makes the sink look so darn pretty, and the new wall treatment and mirror adds so much to this otherwise basic bathroom.
In the "before," it looks like the mirror may have been hanging a little too high for ideal use in order to accommodate the glass shelf. The "after" mirror appears to be much more functional. Also, kudos on getting a new toilet with a narrower tank... it probably saves a little on water costs, and every inch of space is sacred in a small bathroom!
I like the before better...sorry. the towels are great...but they don't quite go with the skirt which I find very traditional. Perhaps a little paint would blend it all together;)
I like the wall treatment, the color scheme, the new mirror. Perhaps the sink skirt could be tailored so that it would hang straight, giving a cleaner line that might look a little better in the space (imo).
One reason the skirt doesn't hang straight is becaue it's either burlap or a really heavy linen. (I suspect burlap.)
The other is that the fabric is "railroaded", meaning it was used the long way, which changes the way a fabric hangs.
I must say I prefer the before, I love minimal and clean looks, but if you love it thats all that matters!
I don't mind the batten board but I think I would like the mirror in white and to remove the skirt around the sink, which I envision encrusted with toothpaste.
I think it's perfect for a half bath. I doubt many people would be brushing their teeth in it. This has so much more personality than the "before."
Love the after except for the mirror - I feel like the frame is too dark, and that color isn't echoed anywhere else in the room. It just doesn't seem to go with the "light and bright" feeling of the rest of it.
Your before bathroom was nice but I do think the batten board does make it nicer. I do not like the dark mirror in there. Overall a good job. You are just lucky you didn't have any really ugly features to have to fight against.
I think that Apartment Therapy is running out of ideas if this is a before and after.
Next time I put a mirror and change out my hand towels I'll be sure to post it for all to see!
