Though Chancie liked her grouping of orange artwork, she wasn't always crazy about all the individual pieces and felt that the wall needed something extra to make it pop. She was hoping to use wallpaper, but when she realized that it wasn't in her budget she created a bright stencil pattern instead.
Initially she wasn't sure about the high-contrast pattern, but after minimizing the amount of art on the wall she grew to love the playful color in the room. Applying the stencil was labor-intensive, but far less pricey than the four rolls of wallpaper she would have needed instead. To see more of Chancie's original wall, see our post on Grouping Artwork by Color.

Nomade Express Slee...
Meh. Doesn't do it for me. It needs to go a little further to be pulled off. Think dramatic window treatments, moroccan style lighting... something to tie it in. Right now it just looks like the start of a project.
I like it! Great color.
I like it. Not overdone, great color, super cool. Love how the orange goes with that beautiful cabinet.
(Your sofa reminds me of the one in Elvis' living room @ Graceland!)
If they painted the window sills a teal blue, and/or added teal blue curtains, I would be in heaven.
It's very loud and busy
pretty, but way too much for me.
Ok, I'm starting to feel like a broken record but I love it! I thought she did a great job. Any post about color and I'm all over it. I also love that awesome cabinet. I do think that wall does need something else, maybe some window treatments like others suggested, but I'm actually cool with the simplicity of what's there :)
I really want to like it--but i don't.
I really like it, but I think those little tiny pictures over the sofa look out of place and too small for the space.
I'm a big fan of stenciling. I like the pattern but I think you do need a little extra there. Maybe move the large pieces of art to the wall and change the colour of the framing of the window sill to a red that is similar to the cup or a bronze/ gold that is similar to the small frame?
I like your dresser. It's too cute to be hiding in the corner like that! Where did you get it?
I love this! I think it's beautiful. My jaw actually dropped upon seeing it.
I think the stenciling is beautiful, but I would tweak some things. As a few other posts suggested, I would put a few larger peices of artwork above the couch (rather than the small detailed pieces which seem unbalanced). I don't think I would put up window treatments, because I like the simplicity. I think window treatments would look to busy. I would, however paint the wood of the trim. I would paint the trim white to keep it simple. I hope I haven't diminished the hard work you've done stenciling. Great job!
I love what it could be. Paint the sills the same orange. Add an end table and lamp and get rid of those tiny pictures...
I really like it just as it is. Colorful, but somehow clean and simple. I think window treatments would make the wall look too busy. And I like the little paintings. Your eye is drawn straight to them and they are low enough to have a good look at despite their size.
Comme ci, comme ça.
Cute, but lose the mini-art.
The stenceling is nice. The three little pieces look ridiculous. I like the BEFORE best.
I like "before" better as well. Don't like stenciling in general, but this is too much.
love the stencil. love the color. Great idea! I would stay away from the curtain idea. I liked the before but I like this better.
Ssorry, it bothers me. Maybe if it were better integrated into the overall design of the room...
Eee, I like stencils, but these look just. like. the tiles in my grandma's bathroom
not my cuppa tea at all and doesn't convince me otherwise, sorry. Too busy and distracting, competes with the art and doesn't seem to be tied into the room at all.
I admire her moxie, and that amazing cabinet to the left, but sadly the effect doesn't come together. The before was undoubtedly better.
Stencilling the whole wall, with an oversized version of the same pattern (ie each shape the size of a sofa cushion), might be an improvement.
Still, if she's happy, then good for her, and I salute her creativity.
Sorry, not feeling this one!
I like the stencil and the cabinet (I REALLY like the cabinet) but I would take the little pictures down and put some warm, solid orange pillows on the couch instead of the one brown one.
A sofa that long needs more than one accent pillow, too. Maybe a couple to match the orange and a couple another colour of the cabinet. But not patterned.
I would love to see a simple floating shelf with art glass where that seascape is. Or a bigger, bolder print.
hating it
Great job on the stencil, but I much prefer the before.
I think I would have liked this better if the stencil was done in a subtle gray and there was one orange design every so often.
While I love stenciling in general, in this specific case it doesn't work -- Moorish/Moroccan simply does not work with the strong MCM architectural vibe of the windows.
Personally, I would paint the wall a strong hue from kt-Color hue. That way, it could pull the disparate elements of the room together instead of adding an orphaned element (there is nothing else Moroccan that I can see...).
I like it.
Love that cabinet. I also like the suggestion of painting the trim around the windows teal. If it were me, I would have made the stencil pattern the size of a dinner plate, and gone all the way to the edges of the wall. The color choice is awesome.
Paint the whole wall orange, rehang the original pictures, move the cabinet so it becomes more of a centerpiece, get more, colorful pillows, and pat yourself on the back for putting in a great effort!!!!!!!
Yikes! It screams 1974! But not in a good way. Because in 1974 there were no good ways.
Please tell me that's not a Paul McCobb sideboard that you painted blue...
yikes
