My husband and I moved into our current rental apartment one year ago, and while we loved the fact that the kitchen was separate, roomy and had stainless steel appliances, we were underwhelmed by the cheap particleboard cupboards, dingy and warped linoleum floors, and ugly countertops. So, with limited options and resources, I set out to make it brighter and warmer.

I don't know---am I the only one who finds this makeover underwhelming?
God that was a makeover?
DECLUTTER
Way too much stuff in this space.
Oh and the good thing? Decluttering is FREE!
Open shelving doesn't work if you have that center post in the cabinet or if your shelves are full of stuff that is not worthy of display. The Fiesta dishes look good. The rest looks like someone never got around to putting the doors back on. I also imagine having to continually wipe off all those pictures that serve as a backsplash.
I did something similar in my rental. I was painting the cabinets and had the bank of doors above the sink in my galley kitchen off. I looked over and saw that it had potential as open shelving.
The difference in doing this is my cabinets weren't modular cabinets. The shelves weren't bending from the weight of what is stored. It didn't look like I forgot the doors. I painted the insides to match the rest of the cabinetry and it looked like they were open shelving the whole time.
I have to say pass on this version. It doesn't work for me at all.
Cabinets are cabinets. Shelves are shelves. Cabinets are not shelves. They are simply too deep. Some people don't really get that. A gallon of white paint and some sandpaper would have cost the same with far better results.
HI rude People!! WOW!
did ANY of you read the post?
She isn't allowed to paint anything and she isn't allowed to replace anything.
I think she did a Darn good job for what she had to work with, which was nothing. She likes it and thats really all that matters. But i think we should give her at LEAST a small round of applause for doing what she did when she wasn't allowed to paint or replace.
Didn't your mothers tell you if you don't have anything nice to say dont say anything at all?? SHEESH!
My mother told me that people are allowed to have their own opinions, and that I shouldn't internalize everything I read on the internet.
