You may remember Jenn Ski's Not So Unhappy Hipster Home tour from a couple of years ago. Included in that tour were two photos of her freshly painted home studio. Fast forward to the present and she has completed her vision for the space, which includes a lot more than just fresh paint!
For starters, Jenn removed the white wood paneling throughout, plastered over the concrete walls, painted, added new shades, and better utilized the height of her ceilings by adding two walls of built-in storage.
In her design (that was executed by Alosso) she included two rows of deep drawers, 23 cabinets in various heights, a floating desk that extends along two walls, and square cubicles so that her rolled paper, Epson printer, bulk shipping supplies, paint, and fabric all have a home. The cabinet wall opposite the window has frosted glass panels that mimic the glass panes above them and, as an amazing final touch, she added above cabinet 'uplighting' which helps keep the space light and bright.
She installed the three floating white shelves herself and displays a rotating collection of her artwork, along with a few of her favorite mid-century collectables. Jenn is still considering a few finishing touches like door pulls and trim, but all and all, her home studio is a wrap.
Congratulations, and amazing job Jenn!

Sprout Side Table
I suppose it's easier to keep clean, but I so loved those white wood walls.
The "before" picture was so darned cute, it was hard to imagine it needed to be changed. That's what I thought before I saw the "after" pictures. Well done!
I agree with NANEEN....
I really like the after for STORAGE and the SPACE it provided but I find that all that white is so sterile and cold. The before curtains and the cute prints helped to keep the space softer and fun..
love the yellow wall lamp - where can i get it?!?!
That table is wonderful.
It's interesting to see the effect of lighting on the same furnitures.
Oh I wish I knew more about those white wood-paneled walls in the before shot!
As an artist myself, white walls are the best for studios. They don't reflect colors that distort your art, they reflect white light around so you can see things better, they are nicer for putting work up to critique it from a distance... It's not JUST about cool decor. There are pragmatic reasons...
She has amazing taste, but I liked the paneling. It's so stark this way.
I love the white space. A neutral palette can actually increase creative output.
I thought the Before was infinitely nicer than the after. I am glad to hear that there are practical reasons for going stark white.
I thought the before had some charm but I definitely can see for an artist studio that white walls and excellent lighting are mandatory. The green chairs look so different with the different lighting. Love the geometric hanging light.
I think I like the before better solely because the lighting makes it look cozy, like a place I'd want to hang out. However, I think it is probably an improvement despite how it feels to me, especially since the lighting in the after picture makes it look like much more of a work environment, so I can see why it would be preferable in her office/studio.
I know this fine lady well. This is just the first, of many, studio incarnations I'm assuming. I was in love with the space in it's past form and love it that much more now. Kudos to you Ski. Nice job!

I totally like the after better. The bright white with the lighting plus all of the storage is great plus everything just pops. Since this is a home studio, I definitely would want to get up in the morning and walk in here to get started. Well done!
Why is the house tours and before and afters on this site always make me want to throw out everything in my house and start over. ;)
Wow! The "before" totally drew me in, because I thought it looked pretty awesome. Then I clicked the "after", and now I get it. I love it! Come to my apartment and fix my office/playroom please!
The before felt dreary, awkward and dark - especially for a studio. The wood paneling didn't help. The space might have worked as a family room or something.
The after is a stunning transformation - practical and beautiful. It's anything but "stark" though - in the bright light colors pop and the space feels much more vibrant.
As an artist who works with textiles myself, I'm so envious of your workspace and would love to work there. A functional layout and so much storage! Gives me something to aspire to.
Love, love, love that she kept the green table and chairs! And, although I wouldn't live in such a bright white space, I agree that for an art studio it reflects light cleaner and aids the eye in discerning colors. Great studio!
Does anyone know where one could procure those white elongated drawers that are under the desk? I need a very similar storage option in my home office. Thanks!
FYI, the original walls were panelled in what's called Pecky Cypress -- I've written several stories about this midcentury paneling --

Gee, her "before" looks a lot better than my "after" in my studio. But her "after" looks even better, and more functional for an artist. Something for me to aspire to.
I liked the warmth of before, but the after is nicely executed.
So inspiring! I wish my home studio looked like that. I've got a long way to go....
I love the bright white after. So glad you kept that awesome table and chairs. It reminds me of my childhood "lemon" kitchen table. :)
I liked the "before" better...sorry
yes, how about a source on that yellow swing arm lamp!
yellow lamp: sorry it's vintage, I found that lamp on Ebay. Don't know the manufacturer.
drawers that are under the desk - got those from Ikea - ALEX Drawer unit

I liked the before better but it looks lovely now.
Inspiring! The storage alone makes me jealous. As an artist, it is so easy for studio space to look cluttered and messy. With all the new storage, it will remain clean, calm, bright and functional always. I love it! I agree that the before was cute, but the after is just awesome.
