We love it when readers send in final results after getting "Good Question" feedback. Jasmine asked the Apartment Therapy community for color suggestions at the start of the month on this post. 56 comments and a few weeks later, she sends us the final outcome - jump below for the "after":
Jasmine writes: Here is a follow-up photo of my front door & shutters. I received a lot of great suggestions from the AT community- the majority suggested either peacock or eggplant. But when I did a little search on AT for front door colors, I found a few photos of yellow doors. And I was totally sold. So here is what I did this week. There is still plenty I can do to give my house better curb appeal, but I am happy with the paint choices... and so are some of my neighbors.
We really like the way the yellow door looks! The dark shutters work beautifully with the color of the house and the new, bright door. Nice job, Jasmine!

Lovely, juicy burst of yellow. I like :)
I love the yellow! It looks great! =)
It looks wonderful! I especially like that you added yellow flowers at the bottom of the stairs...it really leads your eye right to the door! Love it!
This really looks good!
love the yellow too
I love bright doors! Looks much better! Congrats :)
Ooooh, pretty! Good job!
It looks great -- love the yellow door.
Awesome choice! It looks fantastic.
Love the yellow. It will still be cheery during those Minnesota winters. You're in SLP, right?
This is adorable! When you posted this question I didn't know what color you should paint the door but I definitely thought that the shudders should be black. I love the door I would have never thought of yellow.
Loooove the yellow! Looks fabulous!!
Wow. Small changes, big impact - looks great.
I was just wondering about you a few days ago! I was so happy to see that you went for something fun! What an impact- I bet you guys are so happy! You should be.
Unique color for a front door...looks great. I also like that you kept the rocks in front.
WOW, now it really pops
It looks totally different. Great job!
I think that the new shutter colour is great, but I'd have prefered something less primary for the front door. A chartreuse, perhaps?
Wow!
What a pleasing result - I think you made great choices.
Congrats!
Nice. Very nice. Glad you didn't listen to us!
wow. very impactful changes. nice work =)
beautiful!
I love yellow, but not this time. Try painting one of the border rocks on the left side of the house - yellow. Also, remove the yellow plant located on the right side of the step, and replace the left hand yellow plant with a larger yellow plant. Then finally, move the blue security sign to the right side of the house. There. Done!
I liked the before
Love it. I think it would be cute to have even larger yellow flowers.
Awe... I've never once had the nerve nor guts to say this but I have to agree with ChrisGal. Don't get me wrong - I love the yellow door but there's just something (not right?) Perhaps it could be color of the house?
I definitely agree with Enamorada. Larger yellow plants or planters might work.
Great choice! Fresh and inviting!
The colors look great! I think some people are having a problem with the outcome because the plantings are the same. It is time to work on the gardens..good luck.
Very nice. I recommend coreopsis if you want to plant some yellow flowers. They bloom like it's going out of fashion and I think they would go well with the style of the house.
Fabosh!
I'd like to see larger, heavier black planters by the steps, with yellow flowers.
I like it! Great job!
I don't really care for the yellow door, I think it might look better with pure white siding. Here it just looks out of place and makes the whole house look kinda yucky. Like yellow teeth on an attractive person. Sorry, just my two cents.
Or maybe paint the steps black and put a colorful planters along side.
MUCH better than before, but the yellow disagrees with the beige a bit.
Have you thought about using curtain liners in white (or another color, but the same on both sides) to even out the windows on both sides? Having different color curtains peek out of the front windows makes the house feel off balance too me. I think the yellow looks great!
thanks for all the compliments.
i am quite happy w/ my yellow door and dark grey shutters.
oh, and fallingacorn:
im in MPLS
Please do NOT paint a rock yellow as someone suggested. Never paint rocks. Ever!
Looks great!
"Try painting one of the border rocks on the left side of the house - yellow" - huh??
Also a fan of a yellow door --- but not with that color siding. try paint the house navy blue or a grey. Also, I'd line the curtains if possible, it'd give the house a more balanced look.
Did I suggest on a yellow door? If I did then I'm brilliant, because it looks totally great now...way better then that mauve color.
I take that back...I didn't suggest that...my bad...lol
that is just dishy!
SO much better than the before. I love the way the yellow and dark grey look together. Now it just needs some new house numbers - larger, and in dark grey or black.
What an improvement. I'd also suggest curtain liners (but probably not till winter), and some more plantings. Do you have room behind your hostas for hollyhocks?
I think the steps takes away from all of your great updates. Maybe that could be your next project!
Looks great!
haha, it went from looking like my grandma's house to a house i'd love to live in. fantastic.
Looks awesome!
yes, the steps and the sidewalk are a project for next summer. perhaps more flowers next summer as well..
i am on the lookout for new house numbers, but who knows how long that will take..
while the beige siding is not what i would have picked, i have no desire to paint my entire house. i am very nearly sick of painting. ive painted almost every wall in my house already, and i need a break.
and yes, curtain liners will come this winter. right now, i like having as much light come in as possible.
and no, i would never paint a rock.
thanks again for all the great suggestions.
Molto brava!!
Looks great! Love the yellow door!!
If only I could dig up my big bank of daisies for you ... I think they would look great with your new door colour!
I love the yellow door! I've never seen one before, but it's fabulous.
I love the change! Lovely.
It looks fantastic. Excellent choice. Like a whole different house.
Love it. I have been thinking about painting our front door yellow. I might just go for it now.
This color scheme is young and fresh. I like it!
POW! I never woulda thought of yellow and I think it looks just fantastic. I love it!
looks so much better! Yellow was perfect :)
