We're certainly no strangers to the versatility of the Ikea Rast around here. I even put together a post about The Endlessly Adaptable IKEA Rast Dresser last year. This $35 dresser is a DIYer's dream and I love continuing to discover new variations. Anna took the simple little dresser and turned it into a classic nightstand…

Anna recently shared her Rast customization on her blog, Take the Side Street. She also shared the humorous little story about how she started the project back in October and only just got around to finishing it this week. 'Atta girl! I totally understand where you're coming from!

It's hard to believe this is the same piece of furniture but under the added trim on the drawer fronts, the embellished top, and new paint job, there really is a Rast. Anna also added feet to the base of her Rast and, in my opinion, that embellishment alone makes the cheap-o piece look much more expensive.
Check out the project in two posts on Anna's blog — Take the Side Street: IKEA Hack Nightstand Construction Details and Finished Nightstands {Reveal}.

It's nice, looks like much more expensive piece. Well done.
That said, the uncovered outlet and missing skirting/baseboards kinda takes it down a notch, could have at least placed it in front of the outlet. Just sayin'.
Lovely job, but put a cover on that outlet!
Lovely - it looks like a much more expensive piece. I like your lamp too.
Love it! My favorite transformation so far,
Thanks for the feature, Jason! And yeah, yeah, yeah -- I know it needs baseboard. Let a girl tackle one project at a time, okay? ;) Hahaha... my house is definitely a work in progress!
Very nice! I was just looking at the rast online the other day. Could this actually be used to store clothes? or are the drawers just too small? It's kind of hard to tell from the picture.
The drawers are on the small side, but they work great for socks & underwear -- which is perfect because we don't have a dresser in our tiny bedroom.
get outta here. i started working on my rast hack yesterday. i found some great base molding at a salvaged building materials place but it's a little too heavy for the overall look. so i was thinking of doing something else just like this for the base but didn't know where to start. looks like i have a tutorial :)
That's the nicest Rast conversion ever! Great job, sidestreet!
haha I like that you kept it real. I don't have base molding in a few places and never got around to putting the 1/4 round back on after getting the floors redone. great dresser redo.
This is a great dresser mod! I think i'd have used a different style of drawer pull, i love brushed silver on anything, but it looks great.
Love this transformation! Now I need to learn how to use a jigsaw!
This looks great. The funny thing is that the second thing I noticed was the lack of cover on the wall plug and the lack of trim on the wall. Eek!
Love it. Well done!
