For her twin girls, Abbie created a nursery that had — wait for it — not a lick of pink, and an amazing focal point. Take a look at how how she anchored the room, after the jump!
Amy Butler's Lacework wallpaper from Graham & Brown forms the basis of the nursery, with shades of blue and aqua. Plus it has everything we like to see in a 'Before & After' post, namely lots of DIY projects. Abbie gives a detailed break down of where everything comes from - including the $25 chandelier from Lowe's (marked down from $100) that she easily spray painted aqua.
See lots of other photos of the finished room, along with all her projects, on Abby's blog, Five Days Five Ways.
Thanks for sharing Abbie!

Absolutely gorgeous. Nice work, Abbie!
Love the color palette! That wallpaper is a great accent wall too!
This is awesome. I can't believe I'm saying this after de-wallpapering my entire house but...nice wallpaper!
This nursery is absolutely gorgeous.
I mean this in no way as a criticism of the parents involved in putting together this beautiful room (or any of the other lovely nursery tours on AT); however, the most current guidelines from the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly advise against using crib bumpers, as there is a suffocation risk. Do people take them out when they put their babies in the cribs?
I don't want to be a debbie downer (and I'm certainly not trying to call anyone a bad parent, here), but I worry about this with just about every nursery tour I see here.
danielle.s, I agree. I love the look of a beautifully-put-together crib, but I worry.... Even if those who use them do take them out when their children are sleeping (as is probably the case in this post), a soon-to-be parent or even grandparent who takes care of the kids in their own home might mistake the fashion/style for something that's safe to do, since there are so many pictures of cribs with pillows/bumpers everywhere.
But, also.... DANG. This is a fantastic room and I would love that wallpaper in my own bedroom!
danielle.s I don't get it either. The only bedding you should have in an infant's crib is a fitted sheet (not a tucked flat sheet like she has here). I wish I could say people remove the bumpers for sleeping, but pictures I've seen on Facebook tell me that they do not. I have a really hard time not saying anything!
That said, it is a beautiful nursery!
that wallpaper is FABULOUS in that space!
check out the 'breathable bumpers.' yes, they don't look as nice but they are safe.
Yes, puffy crib bumpers and pillows in a crib are unsafe, especially when there are 2 little ones rolling around in there. We had thin breathable bumpers until we no longer worried about noggins and little arms. Safety issues change all the time.
Same color scheme as my own bedroom and that wallpaper somewhat mimics the fabric I chose to make my curtains from.
LOVE IT...it's beautiful. Regarding the bumpers, Grandma will surely chime in. :oD
This room is FABULOUS!! Love the color scheme and the wall paper is amazing.
Its a beautiful nursery, but come on AT- are we seriously calling this a before and after? I feel like before and after should be a change. This is like showing a blank canvas and then a finished painting. Why not show the 'after' if there's no real 'before' or makeover?
I second emem.
WOW! Love this room! Love all the details you can see on her full post, even down to the dresser knobs! It's great!
Gorgeous wallpaper.
As for the bumper, she's got three older kids...
Just beautiful. The contrast between the wallpaper and white makes me think of moomins. Also, I'm surprised by all the bumper-talk. This is not a concern in Europe, what exactly is the problem? Is it if the knots are too loose and the baby can untie the bumper?
Great not using pink!
Okay, AT. This is the third blank-room-turned-into-nursery that I've seen in "Before & After"...today! B&A is my favorite AT "department" so I was really excited a couple of weeks ago when it looked as if the number of posts per day was going from less than 1 to at least 4. But really. These are not true B&A posts.
As I remarked on yesterday's B&A nearly-blank-room-turned-into-little-girl's-room, please put such photos where they belong: under Rooms and/or Family!
Holy crap, that's hella nice! awesome job with the colors and patterns!
Spray paint..the DIYer's bestest friend!
The chandelier looks great!
@jess13, I was thinking the same thing! My entire house has painted-over-wallpaper (too nervous to remove it because of the age of the house/lead paint fear). But, this wallpaper makes me want to slap up another layer! I will be scheming/planning on how to achieve this look with paints. :-) In short... LOVE the wallpaper... beautiful room!
Marythedane, it's a concern everywhere.
This is what sidsandkids.org says:
At what age can I introduce cot bumpers and pillows?
Mar. 26, 2010
Soft bedding such as pillows quilts duvets and bumpers increase the risk of sudden unexpected infant death. They may cover the baby’s face and obstruct breathing or cause overheating. Older babies in a cot can be at an increased risk of a sleeping accident by using pillows and bumpers as a step to climb up and fall out of the cot. It is safer to wait until the child starts to sleep in a bed before introducing a pillow or other soft bedding.
Semantics and opinions aside as to whether taking an uninspired dull area and performing a MAKEOVER (before and after), this room is inspiring! As for posts that don't pertain to me, I just skip them.
