With Memorial Day weekend upon us, we may finally start spending more time enjoying the great outdoors – even if only from the back porch. If you outdoor furniture is looking a little tired, take a cue from Brit and give it a little sunshiny upgrade:

When Brit, from the blog D and B, couldn't find new seats and slings for her outdoor chairs, she decided to take matters into her own hands. Armed with a couple of cans of spray paint, Brit breathed new life into the existing chairs. After painting the seat and back fabric white in order to hide their worn, dingy coloring, Brit added extra charm by painting them with yellow stripes. Then, to pull the whole set together, she covered the table with the same yellow spray paint. The painted set looks brand new!
To see Brit's complete post on this project, including her genius use of a DIY cardboard stencil for the stripes, check out her blog: D and B: Let's Go Stripe-ing.

That looks super great!
I would love to see a detailed and thorough post about this painting of fabric thing. I've seen it done on rugs, couches, and now these chairs. And like everyone else, I'm dubious about the results: texture -- is it soft and comfortable? How very different is it from unpainted fabric? durability -- does it crack and peel?
urbanricket, for brushable paint, there's stuff you can mix into the paint to keep it pliable, "fabric medium." Art stores or craft supply stores have it. For spray paint, as it looks like this project uses, I'm thinking it may just not be a problem.
Given that, in the blog post, Dana refers to the material as "holey vinyl", the application of spray paint here would have a different result than on fabric.
@Urbancricket, I suggest you turn to google. There are plenty of sites with tutes/explanations about painting fabric.
These look fantastic - I've bought some cheap, secondhand director's chairs for my outdoor area and now I know how easy it would be to update them! Thanks!
Some potted plants will complement that. The yellow does make it less boring than the previous pale whites.
Why'd you go dark brown on the wood trim?
I've spray painted shirts before, lightly and with one coat and it is surprisingly soft and pliable there is some fading with washes but that can add to the look and I'm sure could be solved with less abrasive soaps and washing techniques. Also any slight stiffness the not made for fabric spray paint gave to the t shirts was absolutely gone in one wash.
Gorgeous! except .. The dark brown wood makes them look like cheap plastic. It would have been lovely with just the painted stripes and yellow table.
I love the dark tint to the wood. It helps to give the yellow even more punch. Very classy.
Love this. When I first saw the headline, I was expecting the after to be a result of a shopping spree. So delighted I was wrong.
It looks great, love the yellow!
Very cute :) I love the yellow and dark wood contrast
I think the furniture looks great! I'm only commenting because "now that it's Memorial Day", here in Southwest Texas, we are done with outdoors and have moved back inside! It's 95 here and not even June!
Very nice. Love the yellow.
What a fun surprise to see my project featured on here! My name is Brittney though - Dan is my husband :)
