When Korrie came across this mid-century dresser in need of some TLC, she immediately envisioned the piece redone in a style inspired by an Anthropologie dresser. Given the beat up finish, she knew painting was her best option, but wanted to preserve some of the wood tones that drew her to the dresser in the first place. The end result is a fun look that gives new life to a classic piece.

Inspired by the Anthropologie Ordinal Dresser, Korrie sanded down the wood finish, cut out vinyl numbers to stick onto the drawers, then painted the entire piece. When she removed the vinyl stickers, the original wood shone through the paint to give this piece a little something extra. A great example of reuse, this dresser also highlights how a little creativity and imagination can help you create a one of a kind piece inspired by a design favorite.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Great job!
If I could change one thing, I'd swap out the blue globe for a black one...
I like it! You've out-Anthropologied Anthropologie.
Wow! You did a wonderful job with the distressing!
not a HUGE fan, but gets the creative juices flowing.
:( I like the before better.
I love it! It's very on trend and probably wayyy cheaper than the Anthropologie version.
I like it - not my personal style but I like the guts it took to do this.
love it, looks great!
Looks like she sanded it after painting to get a distressed finish as well. Very nice re-imagining of this piece.
lovely
The before looks awful, people are crazy. Reading through the comments of the "wood purists" sometimes I feel like if the before was a piece of rotting wood with dog poop smeared on it people would say you should have kept it in its natural condition.
Great job!
I'm not a fan of the numbers, but the stencil concept is a good one. I can see this used maybe for a kids room, an art classroom, or wherever organization is key. The visual clues of this-goes-here is great.
@AT: I wish it was possible to click Like on someone's comment instead of just the offer of flagging it. Just saying...
Awesome job ! The dresser now has character that totally stands out ...
Well done !!!
Not a fan of the numbers, but with a maple leaf motif, maybe...
Love it! It is so much cuter than the Anthropologie inspiration--great job!
LOVE it too. I think the color is awesome.
joydreamz....you made me laugh. I always feel like there are certain "camps" on AT, one being the woodies, the others are the haters (as in hate white kitchens) and the homies (feel threatened by a minimalistic space without a bunch of stuff around).
I don't really dig the style, but I can see that it has been well done.
Way better than the Anthropologie version. Not my style, but well done.
I'm a wood purist and like this one OK, I actually saw a different version inspired by that same Anthro piece on D*S I think (I didn't even have to click over to look, I knew it was the same inspiration piece). I liked the other one better but this one's cute too.
And just because someone says they "like the before better" doesn't mean they're a wood purist, it could just mean they don't like how she re-did it. The Anthropologie look isn't for everyone.
Another globe! 2011 is the year of Put a Globe on It!
I was prepared to hate this re-do, but was very surprised to love it upon clicking through. I love the paint (and I usually dislike the painted wood furniture). I love the numbers. It's awesome.
I like it!
@joydreamz....you made me laugh, too. In my case, it's because we have a friend who will give us stuff that isn't quite our taste, but then wants to see it displayed. I hope I never find out for sure, but we've discussed how if he gave us dog poop in a box, he'd expect to see it upon the mantel, placed just so.
I think this is cute not my style either but sometimes it just is not worth stripping sanding and restaining painting is a great fix for less than stellar wood which this dresser is far from being. Im all for painting wood i have done the re staining route and its just not worth the effort sometimes. When you get a crappy wood dresser than you can put all the time and effort you want into refinishing it the "proper" way hopefully you have all the tools for it and space not everyone does. Or wants to. This looks far better than the orginal. If you dont have anything nice to say dont, move on. To say its ruined is a bit much. Sorry im being a bit rude im just sick of reading so many negative comments about someones hard work they love it they worked hard on who are yiu to tell them they ruined it? Thats just rude you wouldnt tell your friend that about something they worked hard on and loved. You would just say if you like thats all that matter personally i would have stained it ebony.
I love fonts and numbers. Great job. That must stop visitors in their tracks.
not quite my style but i think it looks awesome :)
I really like it! And I'm usually in the "don't paint it" camp. ;-) Great execution, especially using the vinyl to let the original finish through.
@Jaguar1211: You would have stained it ebony instead??!! Why are you being so mean and judgmental!! If you don’t like it 100% you should not express that fact here!
I'm just sick of people like you who criticize other people for speaking their minds on the internet. The people that comment on this site are anonymous, they are not the submitter’s friends nor should they be expected to act like they are. When someone submits something here they are putting it in the public domain expressly for the purpose of exposure. Whether people react positively or negatively is none of your damn business. If YOU don’t like it how about you take your moral policing back to your kindergarten class and leave the rest of us to critique in peace.
Anyway Korrie nice job on the dresser!

I love it! It's a perfect way to get exactly what you want without jeopardizing your retirement savings.
I think what Jess13 is getting at is that it gets pretty distracting when we start commenting on the comments (which we all do).
I learned not so long ago that the OP is generally not nearly as offended by the negative comments as those in the comments section are. I'm sure that when someone submits a picture of their furniture for critique, they are expecting both positive and negative feedback. I doubt that they take it personally.
Also, reading the comments, it looks like Jess really WAS responding to Jaguar and Jaguar was actually criticizing Steve!
Oooh, the drama...
@stevedave44: You must have skipped the part where I was addressing jaguar1211.
Reading is fundamental.
I try not to read wood furniture before&afters because I know I'll get sucked into reading all the comment drama even if I tell myself I won't! You guys are like junk food :P
cute. but i pref before.
I am not a fan of the inspiration piece, so I don't find the after all that exciting. The piece has nice lines to it- and still does, when the novelty of the numbers on the drawers wears off, it can be re-painted or stained.
Nice Job Korrie! I definitely didn't see the potential of the original piece but since you did, and had the patience to do the necessary work, I'm very impressed.
The black paint is daring, and Korrie pulled it off really well :)
Wonderful! I was ready to say, "wah wah, white re-do again" but was pleasantly, shockingly surprised to see distressed(?) black with gold numbers. What a fun idea!
I think, for AT readers,
"I liked the before better." = "Put a bird on it."
So playful...I really, really like it.
Looks great! Well done.
So fun - and original.
Well, I think it's just super. And much nicer than the (outrageously priced and NOT as cute) Anthro version.
Really, for me Anthropologie serves mainly as a source for inspiration (though I've never been able to translate anything I've seen there into some this awesome) and ideas. I love going to their stores and looking at their catalogs, because I do appreciate their aesthetic. I've very rarely purchased anything there... good thing they don't have an inspiration tax!
Congrats on a wonderful job ... be proud !!!
Terrific job! I love it.
Worlds better than the inspiration— the price on that Anthro piece is laugh-out-loud ridiculous, IMO.
this is amazing! great job!
It's cute but I liked the before better. But you know, if the owner likes it and it "fits" in her decor, it's all good !
wow, i like it even better than the inspiration ! great job !
DISAPPOOINTED IN THE AFTER BUT IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU AND IF YOU LOVE, THAT IS ALL THAT MATTERS.
I AGREE WITH ANOTHER COMMENT THAT IT WOULD BE A GREAT IN A TEACHERS DESK BUT HONESTLY, I THOUGHT OF A BOYS ROOM WHEN I READ THE 1ST, 2ND,....
I DO APPLAUD YOU FOR A JOB WELL DONE.
