We make frequent trips to our local Re-Store and one of the things that rarely sees any reuse-love is the sad stack of drawers from discarded dressers or side tables that have gone the way of the dodo. This simple idea puts them to use and with a little creativity you could make a cool customized doll house for just a few bucks!
We spotted this great project by Nice Girl Notes on Dollar Store Crafts. Starting with a pair of drawers, a few pieces of wood were glued in place and paper was applied and sealed with Mod Podge. The whole project was done for very little money and is something that any family could put together for their child, no matter how big of crafter you claim to be.
In addition you could change out the hardware on top of the drawers to help make the unit easier for little hands to carry, or add a hinge on one side, allowing the unit to open and close (instead of the drawers sitting back to back), to keep little furniture pieces securely inside.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Very clever and more accessible than half the dollhouses on the market.
SMART!
That is such a great idea!!
amazing what people can visualize!!
Seriously, too cool.
Love it! I think I might like it better side-by-side rather than back-to-back, but still SO CLEVER! The individual "houses" might also make cute display shelves in a kid's room, if you hung them on a wall.
I love this! I'm trying to think of a way to make it into a play house for cars... like a car repair/car wash, etc. Because I have two boys who love, love toys with wheels.
How smart! That's a really great project for someone who's not terribly crafty or handy. Like me.
Oh! Really like it!
Oh, LOVE! This is amazing and I want to make one!
Okay, so that is such a fantastic idea!!
awesome idea! I want to go out and copy it right now!
Great idea.. Love all the upcycling :)
I love it. What if the top was flat and it doubled as a stool?
Wow! Awesome idea, so cute, any little girl would love it.
Very cool!
my jaw dropped. oh my gosh how cute!! I LOVE this... sigh this site gives me waaaaayyy to many wonderful projects that need to be done.. now to have the baby girl my husband wants since my son doesnt need a doll house....
Wow, fantastic!
Awesome! A nice DIY project anyone could do.
My father made us one of these. He used the flat front of the drawer as the base and put a peaked tin roof on top. He also cut out the windows and doors and put in a staircase. lol He probably had as much fun making it as we did playing with it.
I just love the idea behind this so much. This is such a simple process to do. This is what makes this so good. I see a lot of people making this for their girls. stall flooring
