One of the easiest ways to free up some visual space in your home is to get things off the floor. Sometimes you can accomplish this by simply decluttering or finding furniture that pulls double duty, but it doesn't hurt to see what can be mounted to the wall. In this home it was their desk. The best part is it's 100% homemade and you can make one too!
Over at the C.R.A.F.T. blog they've been busy with some serious furniture construction. They started from scratch and documented every step along the way, which isn't always easy to do when taking on a project of this nature.
They started with a simple trip to the hardware store for common items and lumber. They went to work hammering, hanging and in the end staining the piece to give it a weightless look in the room. So take a look around your room and see if you have something that can be eliminated, condensed or even mounted to the wall. It's not as scary as you think!

and it's soo much easier to clean when furniture is mounted on the wall because you can run through the place in no time with a vacuum.

The floating desk is a bit odd to me. Can you rest your arms on it? It seems as though it isn't practical for long term use.

I love floating cabinetry. We have it in our bathroom, en-suite & TV room. I really like the idea of this but there's something that's not quite right... ?? I think it's what Klaus said: too much shelf clutter... ?? :)
The desk is pretty sturdy...I rest my arms on it as though it had legs! Cross your fingers it doesn't fall off of the wall :) It is SUPER nice for cleaning!
The shelf clutter doesn't feel so "cluttery" if you check out her blog. There's a large dark TV and fireplace directly to the right of the display. It helps balance out the wall nicely!

I like floating furniture. And the off-center photos with the ribbons of color are great.
I love the way the pictures are framed offcentre with those stripes of colour, so unusual, looks terrific.
