Sometimes you just have to see a before and after project side by side to really understand what happened. We love seeing all the different ways folks hack furniture purchased at IKEA and this is another one. From basic shelving to...holy smokes what happened!
We stopped in over at IKEA Hackers recently and came across this lovely transformation of a basic IVAR bookcase. We've seen them painted and polished, even had fabric curtains or dividers added, but we've never seen anything like this before.
Can you believe it's the same shelf? There were no additional parts added to this piece, just paint and a bit of wood filler to take care of the extra holes. The shelves were ripped on a table saw and things took a bit of an angle. It's a great example of using what you have and making something new and modern without feeling pressured to head to the store. You can read more about this project over at IKEA Hackers.

This is a very good hack, but I still think the leaning shelves from CB or even PB look more polished than this hack.
Eh, I like the IVAR better. Leaning bookcases are an inefficient use of space, and they just look awkward.
I think it looks pretty awesome, and it's very clever.
The beauty of Ikeahacking is that the end result doesn't have to be perfect, just different. This may not be efficient but it's fun.
I normally hate those "ladder leaning against a wall" look bookshelves, but I for some reason I absolutely love this. I think it's because of the uprights that divide the shelves into three. Or maybe it's the white paint. Anyway, it's a wonderful transformation and I just love it!
