Who doesn't love a Hepplewhite chair? With its shield back and intricate design, it can be a great centerpiece in a modern home with just a few touch-ups. A fresh coat of paint, some construction reinforcement and fresh upholstery creates the perfect addition in this before and after.

LOVE LOVE LOVE IT! Such a great post! Now, I just need to keep my eye out for some fix-er up-pers myself! ;)
Brilliant update! So fresh. I purchased an old dining set with the intention of a paint/upholstery update. This post (and their tutorial) motivate me to get moving!
Fabulous! (I prefer the original fabric choice, too. The darker chevrons she switched it to later seem to heavy to me.)
I always see potential chairs at the flea market, often under ten dollars, but I can't think of a single corner of my house that could use another seat... I got two mid century (Danish Modern) chairs with "carved"-looking (actually veneer) basket weave backs that need attention, but like this person, I'm torn. The wood absolutely must be cleaned and refinished, and might not be worth staining. But the basket weave is kind of cool and makes me leery of paint. Decisions, decisions!
Wow. Great job! Love that fabric.
Beautiful!
I'd love to know the budget breakdowns of this Before & After (and all others actually). Can a frugal girl like me afford such a beautiful turn around? Nice job!
Gorgeous chairs. I adore the fabric print. @sherrybinnh I have the same sort of basket-weave backs on my MCM dining chairs I picked up on craigslist. At first, I couldn't stand the weave, but now I think it's kinda cool and I'm not sure if I want to paint or stain them. However, my chairs are actually in decent condition, so I'm doing the six-month wait-and-see before I make a decision.
I want to say I've seen this before..maybe on another site. Regardless, great job. I like the blue and white together. But then again, blue is a favorite color.
Nice.
@miller8786 I have the whole breakdown of the cost to upgrade this chair on my original post [linked above] but here it is:
Hepplewhite Chair – $14
Sandpaper – $6
2 cans of Primer spray paint – $6
2 cans of Lacquer spray paint – $8
Steel Wool – $3
1/2 yard of fabric – $17
Total cost: $51
I chose a more expensive-ish fabric which is where my cost came up, but in the end $50 wasn't too shabby. And I have a lot of the materials leftover to use on future projects :)
love it
very stylish! :-)
i love that fabric! any idea who its from?
The fabric is called Sultana Lattice from Calico Corners :)

I have about a yard left if you would like it!
