One of my daily blog reads is Manhattan style writer and mom-extraordinaire, Joanna Goddard's, A Cup of Jo. I'm always excited for her posts about interior design and this one was especially fun because it was about her own home and workspace.
After feeling a bit drab and in need of a freshening-up, Joanna approached Jenny Komenda of the Little Green Notebook for a budget-friendly, bedroom pick-me-up.
I love the whimsical color that they added to the room with some simple flea market finds, a headboard designed by Komenda herself, and a few special purchases along the way.

Read all about it and see more photos over at A Cup of Jo.

White Enamel Flatwa...
Nice job. It gives uplifting and positive vibes, according to me.
Fun colors....The headboard makes the bed look really cozy and I absolutely love that pillow! The Roman Shade makes the window much more classy looking. Good Job!
Absolutely gorgeous. Very inspired!
beautiful
Anyone know where to get those bedside lights?
where is the pillow from? looks like josef frank?
CM - There are a bunch of "behind the scenes" posts on Jenny Komenda's website, including some about the textiles in the room. IIRC, the pillow was made with 1 yard of Josef Frank fabric on the front and the back was a plainer fabric.
When I saw the before pictures I thought, "I hope they didn't ruin it, it is really quite lovely as it is."
I was pleasantly surprised! It is a really lovely after! I love the addition of not just color but TEXTURE to this space.
WOW! I think this is a huge improvement on that space. The before was okay, but the after is so much warmer, in my opinion. I love the headboard and even the close proximity to the window seems somehow less of an issue with the depth and texture of the headboard there. I also think the lighting goes better in the "after." And the Josef Frank pillow is lovely.
Very nicely done!
Looks like they painted the interior of the window? Or am i off?
Question: Can you paint interior/exterior window frames or will they chip and peel?
thx
Great job on the headboard.
I have to say that I liked the before waaay better. The room was clam and relaxing, now there are too many different colours, textures and things in it. The golden headboard looks tacky and the pillow with its bold and detailed pattern makes me nervous.
That looks great! The room looks warm and cozy without being stuffy and dark. Great job!
That rug is driving me nuts, it looks so messy at that angle (although I love the colors).
I prefer the bedroom prior to the makeover as well. There was some really nice elements that should have been left alone.
Prefer the before, but both nice.
Why is there a metronome by the bed??
Nice job! I liked it before, too. But the colours give a surprisingly fresh and happy mood to the room. Also: I like the wedding photo more than the seabirds (as a symbol, I wouldn´t want to share my private room with a bunch of loud and greedy birds when I can look at the symbol of our love)!
@ inspiredbypeople: You can, depending on the surface. Wood is possible, but you have to take off as much of the old colour as possible. The whole thing is very dirty and mostly not worth the effort, just cover with curtains and nobody sees the dark frames anymore.
the bed was moved away from the table and a small table added. Plus flowers and plants. It makes me realize that small changes (even without changing the headboard) would have improved an all-white all-pale theme of the original bed setting. I preferred the original a bit more myself, but I could see how the owner wanted a change without spending a lot of $ and got exactly that! Metronome is one of those "stage-y" things like antique non-working phone. The need for a paperweight next to a bed is just a little funny. Imagine needing to take off and replace the metronome every time you reached for a book at bedtime.
I like what they did, especially the headboard, but I have to admit that the crooked rug in the last picture is bothering. I want to straighten it, at least the part that's bunching up against the baseboard. *twitch*
My wife and I love your re-design!
Gorgeous! I would love to see just one wide-angle shot of the whole room! :)
The room itself is just pretty whether it was the before or after.
Love the new room - very vibrant! There is a lot of energy in the room now - great if you are working from home in that room. May I inquire about the bedside sconces? The shades look like the classic Arne Jacobsen lights, but I love these more since they have adjustable arms.
Personality is always interesting, and here in the comments it is, too. The Before shows a room without design, but bare color and emphasis on. A soft bed beside the lit window. The After photo has a decorated room with an upholstered headboard in the Ame color as the wooden headboard, a change in paint color, and many details added to the room to give in a setting and to make it a setting, too. I love the photo of the ocean above the bed, the books and vases, and the table--which may or may not have been there previously. I think that the After is an improvement without much work resulting in a relaxing bed and a vibrant room. In the Before bedroom, the emphasis was sleep. In the Aafter bedroom, the emphasis is waking to a new day.
Excuse the typos in my message above, a result of the dastardly auto-correct. A period ends a sentence too soon. Same gets replaced with Ame. Eeek!
This is another gorgeous makeover by Little Green Notebook. I love the headboard and the print above the bed. Perfection!
