A few months ago my friend asked me to come over and check out these new cool-toned lamps she had just scored at a local consignment store. Their color scheme didn't quite fit in with her current decor, but she was absolutely head over heels for them. An hour later when we re-surfaced from our conversation we had redesigned her entire living room around these lamps, and that's when the living room makeover project began...
Joanne was getting bored of her space and was looking for a change anyway, so this ended up being a fantastic excuse to switch things up and breathe new life into her home. This transformation is a great example of really changing the feel of a space through color and simple fixes.
We began by going straight for the walls, an inexpensive and dramatic fix that lead the color scheme for the rest of the room. Two walls went to a cool greenish/blue, two walls and the ceiling went bright white and the trim and fireplace mantel went a creme.
Then once the wall color was done all the decorating fun began. We were really looking to lighten up the room and replaced some of the darker, heavy furniture with lighter pieces. Some came from other parts in the house and some from consignment shops. Joanne is a self-taught master seamstress and made some gorgeous new throw pillows for the couch and chair that tied the new color scheme in perfectly. By adding in the new tones in the furniture and accessories it really brought out the lines and color of her darker wood pieces in a whole new way. Next we replaced her main throw rug with a stunning new one from Crate and Barrel.
We also did easy little fixes like added cool-toned accessories across the rooms, sprinkled in some repotted plants in the new color scheme, and added anthropolgie drawer pulls on the vanities that gave them a whole new feel.
Joanne had been considering replacing her dining set for quite a while so this project gave her the push to start looking around and when we came across this stunning vintage copper set she just jumped on it. It ended up fitting perfectly and pulling over some warmth into the dining area.
Joanne's new living/dining area has such a beautiful light and open feel to it and accents her stunning floors in such a lovely way. This project was a blast and now that she caught the makeover bug we are moving on to the bedroom next. Stay tuned!
