A big part of "Setting Up Home" (our theme for August here on Apartment Therapy) is deciding on the best spot to situate zones - like your workspace or entertainment area. This smart before and after from Southern Living combines them into one small space, with the added bonus...
...that you can close the doors when you are not working or watching.
We have a similar set up for our entertainment center at home and the difference in the room when we close the doors of the closet that contains the tv, dvd player and games systems is HUGE - it returns the living room to a place of calm and conversation.
Things we like about this makeover:
The neat use of a metal tool cabinet as a tv stand (with lots of storage)
The frosted panels in the closet doors
The addition of task lighting, making the space feel less closet-like

Quite nice. I especially like the use of the tool storage piece with garage/workshop esthetic.

Quite nice. I especially like the addition of the tool storage cart combining the industrial garage/workshop esthestic with the sleek clean lines of wall shelving and etched glass doors.

Only thing that bothers me is that shelf that is right at forehead level. I can't tell you how many times I'd be trying to work . . I'd re-adjust in my chair and *BONK* my head on that shelf. I'd raise it up just a bit! But that's just for me. :) Otherwise it's a fabulous makeover!
It would seem like if you were at your computer for an extended period of time, it would get uncomfortable sittle in that chair....just a thought.
It looks great, but I could not sit on a stool at the computer, that looks so uncomfortable. I'd the least I'd need one w/ a back.
oops, *At* the least...
ok, so here's the deal about my closet. i designed it for Lowe's Creative Ideas magazine a few years back. everything had to come from Lowe's which included the movable shelving system, the lighting, the metal wall, the rolling toolbox, the frosted door french doors, the paint, and the black stool. i had to stay within a $700 budget. it was a great solution with a great deal of flexibility. i agree about the stool, but Lowe's does not sell ergonomic office chairs. glad you all like it!
Wow. I can't believe that happened on a $700 budget. Awesome.
