When reader's toured Kerri & Luke's "Bang For Your Buck" Bungalow, they raved about Kerri's thrift-savvy style. She and Luke recently moved into a new home (another tour to come?) and she's tapped into her thrifty makeover side once again to get her decor in tip-top shape.

Check out the end result, a drastic change from the original! Kerri purchased it from Craigslist for $20. She decided to lose the doors and transform it into a barware storage buffet. The outcome was very retro with a great splash of color. This isn't the first credenza to get the "Kerri overhaul." Check out her recent blog post documenting her credenza craze!

Oh I loved their build in shelves! Serious build-in envy!
Nice job!
oo la la!!
ooh i love this!! we have been wanting a bar set-up at home and i love seeing all the diy solutions.
this looks great! good job!
Looks great-- very inspiring. I have a very beat-up/scratched credenza (a hand-me-down) and have been thinking about fixing it up. But I'm not really sure if I could spray paint it in my apartment without making a mess... (Taking it outside isn't really an option.)
Thanks ya'll!
Sarita- my friend had the same problem, so she brought her stuff over to my house and we laid down flattened moving boxes in my backyard. Also, the super cheap plastic paint 'tarps' at Home Depot work great. Make sure to get at least two and drape them over anything you don't want finely misted with paint- that stuff flies and lands everywhere! So yes, if I were you, I'd find a friend with some spraypainting space and pick an afternoon to revitalize your piece.
Or, you could just paint the traditional way and do that in your house :)
Looks very good. $20 well spent.
Its very lovely, but am I the only one thinking about how dirty my glasses would get on an open shelf so near the floor? Definitely wouldn't work in a house with pet hair!
Cute! Love the color :)
Thanks for the tips, Kerrichristine. :)
I think maybe regular paint would actually work better (especially since that thing is hella heavy!). Now to get myself motivated to tackle another project...
FYI, I have made "spray booths" for painting by cutting down the sides of cardboard boxes big enough to shelter the thing I'm painting, and ringing them around the item. (For little things, just flipping an open box onto it's side and spraying into it works, too.)
so smart to take the doors off... i'm going to borrow that idea!
An air gun might cost about $35 and with a modest air compressor, all colors become possible. Just be sure to dilute the paint as latex or laqueur (if you can find it) tend to gum up air guns.
I'd be worried about dust, too. The credenza had sliding doors. Maybe you could get some plexiglass (or real glass) cut to fit.
Pet hair hasn't been a problem, but I did flip the glasses upside down to avoid dust settling inside.
I'm not sure what the difference is between this and the 'open air'/exposed dishes cabinet concept, when it comes to dust. I guess people just dust a lot, or give things a little rinsing before they use it?
The plexi glass idea does have my wheels turning though!
Awesome
