BeforeAT reader Schlomi sent in photos of an impressive kitchen cabinet makeover. According to their email, it took one weekend, "some paint, tape (lots of it), patience, and more tape." Jump below for the colorful result:
The Colorful After!
And for those of you who are all about the process:

WOW! Cheers!
Wow, impressive! I would never have the patience.
Someone's not going to get their rent deposit back...
I'm impressed with the effort and the colors, but, oh, my eyes! I would never be able to tell if the kitchen were tidy or messy.
Hopefully they did lots of sanding, too, or those fun colors will peel right off.
i'm dizzy with admiration.
Awesome! You must be very detail oriented and/or patient.
Now I think the stuff on top of the shelves could stand to be more vibrant.
Oye, this is like Mondrian on Acid!
Whoa, wow! I don't know that I could live with this, but it's certainly unique and colorful.
@bepsf I can't find where is says (s)he's renting.
I give it an A for risk taking and chutzpah!
This is one of those projects that is very personal. If you love it, that's what matters (unless you are trying to sell).
That's a lot of color.
I thought the exact same thing regarding rental deposit. I hope it's not a rental. :) It really surprised me after clicking through. Not at all what I was expecting. Um... Yeah.
I'd like to see more wide angle shots (withOUT the tape!) to see what the cabinets look like (now) in the context of the room.
I LOVE the design, but as others have said, I don't know if I could be comfortable living with it. (I tend to prefer plain colors, even in clothing.) But the implementation is stunning and if I could see the whole room, I think it might even work there...
The tape job looks perfect, though! (I see no oopsies!) I'm impressed!
This was really, really well-done. But waaay too busy for a relatively small space. I think I would've preferred if the cabinets had been left white (but with the woodwork painted to match) and the design used as a backsplash.
MASTERFUL! My hat is off to you! It is busy, but so well organized. You must love your kitchen now that those drab oat colored cabinets are history. To hell with deposits!
i love the fat frog on top of the cabinets.
nice paint job too
Excellent. Good for you for expressing yourselves. Love the "more tape" photo.
And I thought I was being brave when I painted my (similiar) cabinets different colors.
BTW, you don't necessarily need to sand for the paint to hold ... you can buy primer specifically designed for cabinet repaints these days. I did mine five years ago and haven't had any trouble (except for regretting one or two of my color choices....)
I think you should consider adding some color to your kitchen. ;p
oh...
Vavoom! That will wake you up more than morning coffee. Great job - did you design it yourself?
Yowsa!
Hm, bright...
It seems to need different knobs now though! Maybe red balls or similar!
As Tim Gunn would say, "That's a lotta look!"
I love it because I'm sure schlomi loves it. Well executed, fun, and totally personal, which should be the goal in any design endeavor. Bravo!
wow--did not see that coming! i think it's fantastic, and i bet you had a blast doing it. nice work!
I think this looks super, but the other objects now need to be changed to reflect the change in design. It is a bit busy, but I think that we aren't getting the best sense of it from the shot with the tape all over the place. I think that either some bold primary color objects will help, or removing all of the objects from the top of the cabinets altogether.
Still, I'd take this over a sterile white kitchen with no personality any day.
Wow! Wow! Wow!
I'm sure Schlomi is excitedly organizing bright accents as we speak. Anyone with that much creativity and patience must be seeing this project through to the end. Bravo!
I think (hope) bepsf was being sarcastic about the rent deposit, which made me giggle.
Maybe inspired by FLW's cabaret dishes? Perfect for a chicago apartment!
Um... no.
I'd give you my opinion, but my corneas have temporarily stopped functioning.
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the feedback! Some hilarious comments.
Regarding the project:
1) Not a rental, thanks goodness, or I'd be in some serious trouble.
2) No sanding was required
3) The cabinets have been an amazing substitute for coffee, i must say
4) Definitely not for everyone, you gotta love it to live with it.
5) I'm a huge color freak. The rest of the house is very colorful: a mosaic tile in shades of green and blue cover one wall in the dining area; another wall is in alternating thin stripes (a la Paul Smith); bathroom tiles are screenprinted with an image of underwater rocks; and the bedroom (next project!) will soon be plaid. Busy, i know, but i wouldn't have it any other way.
Cheers!
