Who: Sarah from Ecologique Design
Where: Austin, TX
What: a kitchen renovation on a limited budget!
Tell us about this project: Elisha and Steve of Austin, TX worked with Ecologique Design to renovate their kitchen on a limited budget. They wanted to salvage what they could to use in the new one, so we reused their cabinetry and painted them a different color. We bought new wood counter tops which came from a responsibly managed forest...
The walls were covered with low VOC paint to limit off gassing into their home. The backsplash we chose contains more than 60% pre-and post-consumer recycled material. A new low flow faucet was installed to help curb their water usage. We chose vintage fabric and a vintage pendant light since the materials will have already off gassed and additional resources were not required to manufacture something new.
Thanks, Sarah!

What an improvement... I only with I could see more pics!
Very well done. And I love the choice of quotes for that chalkboard cupboard.
While I appreciate that people are private about money (myself included!), I often wish these "on a budget" posts would give some idea of the budget. What is a "limmited budget" to you might be expensive to me, you know? Even a range ($5k-$10k, $10k-$20k) would be useful.
*limited
Hey Valgal! The homeowners spent about $1700-ish on materials for the renovation. They did a lot of the labor themselves.
Thank you! I appreciate the information (and that does meet my limited budget definition. :-) )
Am I a horrible person if I liked the before cabinets better? The afters look really weird to me.
No Hazelstone u r not i am with you. I think the countertops would look much better if they painted the lowers to match the upper cabinets, i like the uppers but the dark brown ones icksnay. also SS microwave, SS dishwasher, white sink, and white range, while i appreciate it was on a budget it doesn't seem any better visually.
looks great
Love the cabinets and backsplash (not floor) tiles of the before. Perhaps it's just me, but I think it was overkill - just needed tweaking.
