Linda has a lovely home, outdoors and in, but her entryway was not feeling very welcoming. Besides being on the bland side, this entryway was also seriously deficient in functionality. Fortified with a whole lot of DIY ambition, Linda turned the entryway into a welcoming (and useful) space…

As you can see in the 'after' photos, Linda went with a more dramatic palette for her entryway. The grey walls and black door are punctuated by white trim and newly installed board and batten. That board and batten is for more than just appearances though. By adding the trim, Linda was able to introduce some much needed coat hooks along the walls, giving the family quick and easy access to outerwear. Linda also added baskets on top of the radiator cover to catch mail as she brings it into the house, making it a little easier to keep the space tidy.
A stylish and functional space — that's what it's all about!

fantastic! I love this, it has such a nice atmosphere now.
Good call on painting the newell post and railings. The gray/orange color scheme is great too. The whole entryway looks fab.
Love it!
Wonderful change and cute beagle.
Gorgeous!
Beautiful! I especially love the paneling - looks like it was always there.
Nice!
The post and railings repainted look great.
I love it! It makes me want to see more of the house, so stylish.
Alexis, love your comment about Ernie our rescue beagle ..
Suzee, that was the look we were going for ...
Mrs. Affleck, I hope you'll come back ...
wonderful! great inspiration
Great job!
Yes yes yes! This was dying for a black trim.
Terrific example of what a difference a bit of contrast can make, just lovely.
Would love to see a pop of colour from the entry rug. Maybe a coordinating shade of green.
love this
I really like the black closet door!
I worry that the post will get nicked, because it is a high traffic area. (I worked for a designer who did historic preservation and he said never paint a post or railing white.) It looks great though.
So pretty! I painted my foyer a dark blue/grey and I find that it makes the rest of the space beyond the foyer look bigger.
Beautiful job, well done, you have played right into my design sensibility.
On a technical point, thank you for having the save views in the after photos that you had in the before photos.
Wow, I love the paint job on the railings! What a huge improvement.
A nice feel as in "come in, take off your coat and hat. Sit down and take-off your shoes ... " then when you enter the house area you must feel like you are welcome there. Nicely done.
Looks great!!
Did you make the cushions? And I want to know where the lamp came from. I guess I have to wait for the follow-up posts. Gorgeous!
The change is stunning. I love the darker stain on the wood, and I love the white. You made the house look historic and modern all at the same time. You manage to remove what seemed to be a dated version of new construction. SO good. SO SO SO good.
