We're not sure the time will come when we ever tire of seeing old furniture made into new play kitchens. They're just so cool and unique to each family and child. This particular model has an oven door that opens out and built-in lighting!
This play kitchen like many others we've featured is a great diy project made with some serious love and creativity. Rebecca, from Washington, wasn't too impressed with the high price tags of retail play kitchen options so she set out to make one herself (along with help from her husband).
Keeping her 2.5-year-old daughter Lucy Kate in mind, they made many adjustments to this entertainment center found at a local thrift store. They took safety precautions, added chalkboard paint added and even some lighting so little Lucy can keep an eye on her pasta water so it doesn't boil over!
Curious about making your own? Here's what Rebecca spent on her project:
Wood entertainment center - Goodwill - $25.99
Silver flat bottomed bowl - Goodwill - $1.99
Moen faucet - ReStore - $2.50
Stove and oven knobs - Used Appliance Store - FREE
4 Cork coasters (for the burners) - Bed Bath & Beyond - $3.99
Puck lighting (to light the work surface) - BB&B - $11.99
Tension rod - BB&B - $7.99
Tension hinge - Lowe's - $1.51
Spray primer - Home Depot - $2.98
Chalkboard spray - Home Depot - $6.97
Handle (for oven) - Home Depot - $5.00
Misc wood/hinges/screws - Home Depot - approx $10.00
Thanks Rebecca and happy cooking Lucy Kate!

White Enamel Flatwa...
well done!
this is great! i'm thinking about making my son a mini play kitchen (he has a small bedroom) for his second birthday. the project seems overwhelming but seeing the short list of inexpensive supplies makes it seem less daunting :)
I enjoy seeing these play kitchen transformations, but I cannot help but think about how darn HEAVY those old fashioned entertainment centers are. Most of them are made of solid oak. Unless it was free and already in my house, I am not sure the cost savings are worth having to transport one of those heavy things home, move it all over my garage during the renovation process, place it inside and then haul it back out of my house when my child outgrows it.
i love that this piece was done without a ton of paint! nice job.
Love it, simple. Great job!
Very sweet. Looks like a lot of fun!
I also like that there is not a lot of paint. Very cute and inexpensive play kitchen.
