Miki sent us before and after photos of her bedroom headboard project. Here is what she had to say: Sometimes I am crazy about my husband. Other times he drives me crazy. What if you want to write all that down without embarrassing yourself or others (especially the kids)? You learn Braille...
I bought a load of Styrofoam balls, cut them in half and taped them to the wall pronouncing all my secrets! The entire project costs around 10 dollars, hope you like it.
A totally one-of-a-kind solution - to both secret keeping and decorating! Miki lives in Tel Aviv - check out her post on the project and more of her style on her blog.
Thanks, Miki!

Shaw's Original Fir...
So, what does it say?
Passive aggressive decor. Not a good way to deal with marital discord.
I assume it says, "Sometimes I am crazy about my husband. Other times he drives me crazy" like she says in the description. Hilarious and what a cute bedroom!
I like this: the texture is great.
I have a jar of Nivea by my bed, too!
@monstergirl, I doubt she wrote "Keep your beard trimmings out of the sink." :) I think most couples understand and appreciate the you-make-me-crazy-sometimes-but-you-are-still-my-favorite-ever sentiment, and I for one would be delighted if my bf pinned that sentiment up in Braille for me.
I can't make out all the letters, but here's what I got
sleep fi?t
make love
talk cry
think kiss
lau listen
How cute and original!
@ ADrury, the fi?t one is "fight"
Hey ADrury and tyzephyr, Thanks for trying to figure out what I wrote. When I looked at the Braille guide it suggested one Braille letter for "gh" - so "fight" and "laugh"
Thanks for featuring me in AT!
Miki
This is really unique and interesting. I've seen a lot of people display sayings or quotes in their homes like "live, laugh, love" and I've never really liked it. But this is kind of cool to me as a way to remind yourself of a quote that means something to you without making your home feel like a billboard. Cool points for creativity! :)
Awesome, Miki! (Secretly relieved you tackled the rest of the bedroom as well -MUCH improved!) :)
I like it! well done!
It says: "I can't believe how f-ing long it took me to line up and glue these f-ing balls to the f-ing wall."
Love the texture and hidden message in the headboard. I'm not a fan of seeing the words "family" or "live laugh love" written out so literally in rooms, and putting up a message in braille is a great way to say it without being so obvious.
Also, love the improvements to the rest of the room that you tackled!
Totally awesome! I really feel like that needs the perfect lighting though to make that work.
Love this
Very cute idea...
Cool!
I love this idea and am going to do it for my daughter some time since she is blind!
There's at least four other contractions you could do besides the "gh" one, and I think laugh is missing the "gh" contraction. I think it's great that you at least took the time to learn some braille!!!
@Slangevar
Hahahahahahahahahahaha ;)
I've posted before that textures like that generally make me physically ill. However, somehow your wall doesn't give me that reaction. And I love it!
I agree with others about the Live Love, blah blah posters, and this is such a creative way to do it. I can see this becoming a trend.
@ medusa12120
This segment wasn't titled 'bedroom' makeover, it was titled 'headboard' makeover... and that's exactly what she accomplished. I love it!!!
Hmm. On one hand, neat. On the other hand, I'm not a fan of blithely co-opting the language of people with visual impairments for home decor funsies. This wouldn't be okay if Micki were tossing around "African" "artifact" knockoffs/whatever from Pier One, would it?
I feel the head board is too WHITE. I think you should paint the frame a Purplish color, like the drops on the sconces. and then color up SOME of the dots the same colors as the sconce drops. That way it would be more of an Art Object, versus looking like an embossing.
I like Fred's idea of adding a little more color - but I haven't seen the rest of the room either. What we don't see on camera (opposite the bed) may bring enough color into the room. The photography style makes the white seem really WHITE, but in person it may be just fine. Overall, still love this room. :)
If I did this, I would need the taped-on styrofoam balls to start way higher than that. I mean, let's face it, when some sex starts happening, those babies will just pop off!
the headboard is cool but the rest of the room looks like a 12 year old lives there.
i'm just glad it doesn't say
KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON
Braille is not a language; it's a tactile lettering system. Nothing "co-opted." especially at that size.
