If you have a yard, but not quite enough room for a shed or out building, then a small container to hold assorted items is a must. Your options are usually the extra expensive wooden ones, or this generic plastic version. Instead of letting the space go to waste, this container now boasts super seating!
With the help of some foam and a little fabric, this chest is now a great spot to grab a seat. If you live in a more humid or moist climate, you might try using oil cloth instead to keep the elements at bay.
If you wanted to get extra crazy, you could bust out the Krylon Fusion spray paint (or any other paint formulated for plastic) and give the base a custom paint job as well. It's a fun reminder that just because you might be limited to big box store shopping, it doesn't have to appear that way!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Looks good!
Great way to reuse an old, beat-up item! I would have repainted it too.
speaking from experience, those things dry rot really easily. I have fallen through one before. I would be extremely careful about inviting people to sit on one.
As much as I really want things saved from the landfill, some things just can't be saved. This is a lesson in not making the mistake of buying another one to replace it, since you know this product doesn't hold up so well. This just seems like a waste of fabric and foam that'll also end up in the landfill when this thing finally craps out.
Don't get me wrong, it looks nice, but that poor doomed fabric.
Jeez people - it's PLASTIC! It looks great and I know from experience they last a long time. But yeah, I think a bit of paint would really look good.
I've sat on those kind of crates before and they're not stable enough for an adult to sit on without the plastic bending, no? I am not fat by any means, either.
Great idea! I dont have a storage bench like that....but I could make one out of wood... hmmm......
In the Before photo it looks like it already has a crack on top so why would you spend the money to cover it as a bench when it is already cracked and will not support the weight of someone?
But they duct taped the big hole on top. That totally makes it weight-bearing, right? Um yeah. I'm with those who say this was a bad idea...unless you want someone crashing through the top when they sit.
