Yuko's new workspace in Japan was cluttered and disorganized when she moved in. Her unpacked items desperately needed a place to go. Lucky for Yuko, a little paint and a lot of organization really transformed this space!

We first saw this space a few weeks ago in Inspiring Studios & Workspaces. Apartment Therapy readers responded so well to Yuko's space that I decided to do some investigating. Yuko was kind enough to provide us with a "before" image of this space. I was amazed at how well a little ceiling pant can have an affect on a space. Yuko has filled her space with items from her own line, PataPri. The curtains and artwork along with a bold complimentary color scheme make this space really memorable.

I love the color choice for the ceiling! The new space looks awesome!
I am in love with that turquoise ceiling. It's just so damn HAPPY.
The old room felt dirty. The new version is bright and clean and cheery. Good Job!
Along with painting the ceiling, they decided to clean up. Nice!
It's interesting to see that Japan uses drywall (tape & mud lines in before photo) too.
The major story about this story is the re-organization of the room. The ceiling is an eye-catcher, sure, but really, you take an absolute mess of a room, clean it up, organize it, and it's bound to look better.
Yeah, it's silly to say "a little ceiling paint" when the entire room has been renovated. I can only see a small handful of items that appear in both pics.
I had the opposite reaction - more like YES, they totally cleaned up, organized, got new furniture - but LOOK how incredible the ceiling makes it all look! This is almost shocking, it's so cool. Please share more painted ceilings if you come across them! Before & After would be awesome too!
cute! gives plain 'ole white some pop :)
Can someone edit the "affect" please???
I'm really digging the trend of painted ceilings. This is a great example!
Really pretty!
Really nice!
But I agree - the main transformation is that they cleaned up and painted the walls....
I liked the old chair more.
Love the transformation and the ceiling is beautiful!

Beautiful! We just painted a wall in our living room this exact same color and we LOVE it. So cheerful
Obviously, this is a much more functional studio space now, but I think the painted ceiling is a major part of what makes it more pleasant. Were the paintings the inspiration for the design?
Even if the room had only furniture in the before photo, it would still be a dramatic transformation. I love how the ceiling color ties in with the drapery. I also think the after 'less is more' drapery is just right. The before had way to many curtains which made the whole room feel heavy.
What kind of ceiling tiles are those? Any chance this transformation was magically done to acoustic tiles?
thank you to those who noticed the spelling/context mistakes; sort of bugs me too
amazing transformation.
I <3 paint.
Love it.
A personal project of mine too - Gotta clean up that work space! Looking at the results, I can't wait to get started on mine! I might have to steal that painted ceiling idea. :)
I painted my ceiling!

I liked the old light fixture better. But the after is 1000% better overall.
