With temperatures nearing 60 in Boston earlier this week, I have warm weather on the brain. When I came across Pamela's Atlanta deck-to-sleeping porch transformation, it seemed the perfect place to spend a balmy winter day. Check out how she transformed this "sad and weary" deck into a place to daydream:

Pamela shares slices of Southern style on her blog, Sweet Peach. I love her simple, unfussy charm, and I'm officially obsessed with this sleeping porch.
Pamela knew she wanted a space that served multiple uses that she never wanted to leave. In addition to the gorgeous custom-built hanging bed, the other half of the porch has a wraparound bench and dining table.
Be sure to pop over to Sweet Peach for more photos and details.

The sad-dog face on the "before" photo really makes it for me.
A sunporch with a hanging bed AND a fan! Color me jealous.
Want.
Oo, la la!!!
This is really fun, I just wish there was some more furniture on the porch!
cool idea. looks really comfy!
i would have preferred a daybed look though. that way i could share more comfortably as a couch with visitors that i wouldn't otherwise take to my bedroom.
Sweet! We built our upstairs porch/balcony specifically with sleeping in mind. We haven't put a bed out there or screened it in yet but that's the plan.
Heaven! I love sleeping in the sun. Mountain animals do this to get warm in the winter months, why not us too? That is a gorgeous bed.
That is beautiful. I want.
nice, but the rest of her house probably looks like a dungeon now since it can't get any natural light.
Agreed, the dog's expression is priceless. If a sleeping room hadn't been the plan, some simple sprucing up (plants, some simple patio furniture, hammock) would have made it very cozy. But the sleeping room is lovely.
I need a sleeping porch.
I so want the dog in the after photo, lounging.
Seriously, the dog made me open the post. Such a sweetie.
The porch looks gorgeous. The hanging bed is heavenly. I would spend all my time there . . . coffee in the morning, book in the afternoon, wine in the evening. Truly luscious.
Oh boy that looks like fun. Love the dog; the look on his face says it all.
Damn that's good.
It looks like the before porch is making that dog depressed.
That sad dog is so cute.
The porch looks great, but the addition of the roof space is now going to make the rest of the house very dark.
Watching your dog play while in bed; how fun! Some tropical plants would make it tranquil.
Wow, the other side is BEAUTIFUL.
I really don't understand AT's reluctance to include more photos in their posts. Making people leave your site to view things you talk about in your post is straight up foolishness.
That looks like a little slice of heaven.
Regarding the issue of light in the main house, it would be an issue in colder climates but in a city like Atlanta I don't see a problem. It's pretty bright all year and they'll be spending all their time out on that fabulous sun porch, anyway.
Screened in porches are very common down here in Atlanta! I suspect the new roof has skylights in between the beams, which would brighten things up.
LOL The dog ... the poor poor sad dog... So sad because he has a regular ol' deck !
It looks very nice. I really like the white, too. A bit weird to go on a bed with visitors, but I guess it's more for sleeping at night or lounging with your close family or friends during the day. And the happy dog :)
Um, does anyone else find a hanging bed pretty but impractical... maybe even dangerous? Wouldn't certain *ahem* activities be precarious? Strain on the ceiling, swinging bed etc.
some people have "it" some don't. You have it , I don't hence my name, I want!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wouldn't be able to do this ever at any place I ever lived in because it would astronomically decrease my efficiency in all other areas of life: I would only want to lie on that bed, rocking gently in the sun, reading and napping intermittently for the rest of my days.
This is just lovely and peaceful. Great job.
@DEIRDRE625, I would think those activities were already pretty inadvisable considering it's in a screened-in porch without glass or curtains in sight and earshot of the neighbors.
Love!
WHOA! NEED NEED NEED NEED!! :)
Hahaha oh that little doggy!
Ahhhh....pure unadulterated bliss!
@ those concerned about the dark, dungeon-esque condition of the house post-addition, y'all have obviously never spent time in the Deep South :) This sleeping porch provides benefits both in the winter and the muggy, unbearable summer months.
@ Pamela, ya know, if I leave directly after work, I could be lounging on yer porch drinkin a hot cuppa or maybe a soulful glass of vino by 7pm latest. Leave a light on for me, will ya? *chuckle*
*Well done* falls drastically short of the mark so I'll just say....green with envy here & leave it at that.
THE DOG - holy moly... what a cutie!!
This is quite possibly the best thing I have ever seen. Ever.
Sweet!
Confidential to Sweet Peach: Do you see what a born star your dog is? If I were you I'd make him a regular on that blog of yours (if he isn't already).
From the post title and the dog, I actually thought the sleeping porch was for the dog called Pamela. I agree, the dog's expression is priceless.
Where's the dog in the after photo??
This is where my mind will go from now on! I want!
Awwww- the dog is fully aware that he's about to loose his deck!
i thought the sleeping porch was for the dog but Pamela you've done a spot-on job! it doesn't need anything else but a good book and the dog on the bed end.
Looking at the "after" shots, I got all afeerd that the precious dog's removal was part of the reno. Please put him back---preferably sprawled blissfully asleep at the foot of the cozy new bed.
@Akay, It looks like there's a 6' fence and a decent sized yard. I'm speaking of a (generally) night time activity, when the neighbors are likely to be inside/asleep. I guess I don't feel that sleeping in front of my neighbors is that much less weird than getting busy when they're sleeping. Plus, I'm definitely not laying on a hot mattress out there in the daytime in summer, that's for sure and leaving the mattress out there in winter is probably not the best idea either (so now, get an extra mattress, find a place to store it for 4 months and haul it in and out every year). For my personal climate and purposes this is cute, but impractical. That's is all I'm saying.
I love this, and we have just the spot to do something similar. My practical self, however, wonders how you keep the bed and bedding clean? We get a reasonable amount of dust and pollen on the furniture in our screened in porch. We live in the humid Midwest, and I am always wary of upholstered furniture (or mattresses) soaking up all that moisture during the hot and less cold months. I'm I out in left field on this one?
Beautiful re-imagining of a dreary space! I love sleeping porches, there's nothing quite like sleeping outside on a warm summer night, or even in a rainstorm if you are well protected. I've always thought the idea of a hanging bad is so romantic (even if it's not actually used for such activities...)!
Reminds me of an early house my husband and I rented where we were able to pull out our bed onto the enclosed front porch in the summer. We had a large blue spruce in the yard that covered most of the view making it a very private space as well as protected from the weather. We used candle light because there was no electricity on the porch and would lie in bed watching fireflies and listening to the crickets, frogs and other night sounds. We still talk about how wonderful that all was. Enjoy yours!
Love the idea of sleeping outside on a cool summer night. But NO Mosquitos, thank you. I hope the screens are sealed tight. We have a screened porch but it always seems like bugs get in. What can we do to make sure everything is sealed tight?
Who doesn't want a hanging bed? I would live out there.

Love the outcome, though I have to admit the cute puppers made me want to open!
I've always loved the hanging concept for furniture. There's an incredible swing by Kettal called the Maia Egg that I have been dying forever to have!! This really cool space makes me think of it.
BEYOND fabulous!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE this... but if I had a bed like that I would have to physically remove the dog and two cats first... then clean off all the fur, dirt, half-the-garden, pet toys... anyone want some pets?!?!!! :)
I would never leave.
If you look at the link to her site, you see her also-adorable one-eyed black pug lounging out on the new porch. So cute!
