Not one to shy away from color (or DIYs), Chelsea took on the task of creating a striped wall in her office niche. Her take on a painted accent wall transformed an otherwise plain white wall into a statement that gives the whole space new dimension.
Chelsea has made a few updates to her home since it was featured on Apartment Therapy. In this case she was able to incorporate pattern and color without using a whole lot of material. While the project required a bit more planning and measuring than painting an entire wall the same color, the affect is stunning!
A tip from the pro: For a striped wall like this it's best to avoid painting where the wall meets the floor and ceiling. Measure your stripes so that the white background is at both the top and bottom of the wall.
Check out Chelsea's post on her Painted Walls for more info, images, and paint colors.
While fashion is her main focus, Chelsea is also a champion DIYer with a knack for seeing things differently. You can find more projects and inspiration on her blog Heels + Sunkissed Curls.

I learned a big lesson..white at the top and bottom.one of the color contest entry did it correctly...glad I did not suggest otherwise.
Why is the desk top raised..or should I ask how is it supported?
The study area is very nice, especially the light source.
You got so many great compliments from the writer, want to keep up with you.
That said,I have not figured how to get back to some of the sites. Guess I will have to keep pad and pencil near by to note the exact listing. It is frustrating, since I am such a novice .
Lovely! I wouldn't have the guts or foresight to go with that RED red - but I think it looks great.
I love it! Great job!
I used to have the pleasure of working with Chelsea, and Chelsea...Wisconsin misses you! I like how the stripes are broken up with the picture and they almost frame it again which makes for a really great composition on this wall. Nice work.
Looks great. Anyone know the source for the desk?
Love the stripes! But how did she get them so perfect? Painter's tape or something similar? Even when I try to use painters tape it comes out a little wobbly--and sometimes the paint chips off when I pull the tape! Here they look perfectly straight and chip-free!
Love the stripes and how the color complements the artwork. Incidentally, does anyone know the artist / source for the artwork of the girl with the gun?
Nice bold colours - and the compliment the print perfectly too. Love the bit of texture in the wall too.
Thank you all for your comments! To answer a few questions the artwork is from Two Rabbits Studios (http://tworabbitsstudios.com/portfolio/art-prints), and the desk is a Pier 1 project table. To achieve the straight lines on the wall I used painters tape and then after the paint dried I went back in with a small flat edged paint brush to touch up the lines/chips. The paint color is Valspar Medallion - Burnt Umber - 40079. Thank you, Lindsay for such a wonderful post and feature!
@dustinstruckmeyer Thank you, Dustin, for such a sweet comment! I miss Wisconsin too and working with you! Hope you are well!
We have a striped wall in our study. We used frog tape -- marked it off using chalk lines first. We took the tape off shortly after we did our last coat. We didn't wait till it was dry. I have to say, I am not a pro at all but the lines look really good and straight to me.
I love this little nook, especially the art.
Nice!
Nice job!
I'm partial to strips on wall having painted random vertical strips in "Decisive Yellow" that is opposite to an accent wall painted in the same bright color. Initially no one understood my "vision" but now people are always pleasantly surprised at how quirky and fun it makes our otherwise industrial looking loft.
I used painter's tape and it came out well with no runs/streaks. However when I decided to paint horizontal random lines in "Fire Engine Red" on another wall with the same technique of using painters tape as guides - well that didn't work as well. But that's ok - we can repaint over and start again (though I must admit...I'm not all that crazy about the setup and cleanup that comes with painting).
Looks better than was expecting, but put away the jewelry & holder.
@ rmbnn
"...but put away the jewelry & holder." What's it to you? It's HER HOUSE.
ohfercrissakes- DON'T put away the jewelry holder- I love the pop of color. It's a strong enough accent that can hold up to the red.
Nice job-the whole space looks amazeballs
Love it!! A friend of mine, who paints for a living, gave me a fool proof method to painting stripes. Once you put the tape on, paint over the edges with the existing wall color to seal it. When that is dry then use the stripe color. I did this with black and white and it was perfect!!
The stripes really bring the art to life.
Great job on the horizontal stripes! That is my thing- I've done it in two of my own places, and am brainstorming for my new apartment. I've done a bold contrast, and tone on tone.
