Andrea picked up this dresser at a garage sale for a mere $10. Though it obviously needed some TLC, she appreciated its sturdiness and had a vision of its potential to take center stage in her living room.

Andrea was able to skip sanding the piece because she painted the entire dresser with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in Provence. She then waxed it, first with a clear wax, then with a dark wax to give it the color variation and shine she desired. The top two drawers were removed and disassembled; Andrea used the drawer bottoms to create the shelves that hold the media equipment and baskets. The last step was replacing the hardware with two simpler drawer pulls. For a grand total of $86 for the dresser and supplies, Andrea created a much needed media storage stand for her living space.

cool, of course ;) but what is the stone for? -.^
For anyone who changes the channel without asking first!
:) lol
CITIPEARL--thanks for the laugh!! :oD
I have friends that are so impressed with me..saying that I'm so creative. Hah, nothing compare to the folks who do the before and afters here at AT. I had no idea that removing the drawers would work so well. Bravo I say, Bravo indeed!!.
$86 bills? It should have been cheaper than that.
Purchase price, paint, wax, new hardware, and possibly the baskets. This project could easily have cost $86. Not bad though! You wouldn't be able to find something comparable in stores for the same price. Great Job!
i like it! just not the color, not my choice. but bravo. i think anyone who does some distressing on their own is impressive :)
Great idea.
I've never thought of using a dresser as a TV stand! Brilliant idea. We just finished some woodworking of our own to hide our TV components. We bought pre-made cabinet bases and custom built the shelving on top. Turned out great:)

I can't believe she painted that beautiful wood!
Lol, j/k it was horrible before, and after looks awesome.
$86 is reasonable if she had to buy everything she needed. Keep in mind many of the before and after costs on AT don't include things like sandpaper and screw drivers because they already own them. Next time she does a makeover she'll probably have half of what she needs on hand due to leftovers. DIY gets so much cheaper the more you do it.
I would have never thought of removing the top two drawers and making shelves out of them!
Now I have ideas! But alas, no space...
Good one, KittyW! : )
LOL
very clever repurposing - love it.
bleck, i'm over this shabby chic trend.
I wish they had kept the same handles!
Looks Great! I like the idea of waxing over a painted surface. I bet it makes a very nice finish.
LOL! Thanks for the laugh, KittyWrangler :-D
Not bad.
Years ago, I had a similarly hideous dresser (i.e. as in the Before picture) that my TV stood on. A handyman neighbour across the street converted the front panel of the middle drawer into a "drawbridge" (think castle with a moat around it), with a piano hinge between the front panel and the bottom of the drawer.
I stored my satellite receiver and VCR in there. When it was in use, the front panel was dropped, I could use the remote control to control the VCR and when I was done, I closed it and the receiver and the VCR were out of sight. He did a very neat job on it.
Excellent salvage!
Nice job! But I don't pay over $1.50 for true salvage case pieces ;)
I had the same dresser as a child. Love what you did with it :-).
There is someone on CL in my area who takes old furniture and paints it this minty green and then puts labels in their CL posting for mid century modern. I swear someone must have given them 10,000 gallons of minty green paint. And they take furniture from the 40's paint it minty green and then call it mid century modern. It depresses the hell out of me to see them ruin wood furniture every time I search for MCM.
It looks pretty good. Kind of beachy. But not my style. I've seen people do this before. One lady I know has one in her kitchen for storing platters and things. Truth be told, I have no TV anymore so enjoying not having to style my house around that garbage.
That's a really good solution for mounting a flat screen tv and then having shelving. So much more attractive than those big box store entertainment centers. Thank you!
meh.
Ingenious, and yes, far better than the plastic entertainment centers they try to sell you at Best Buy, etc. Nicely done!
I have always wondered what I could do when I see things that are actually broken like that. Whether it's refinished or painted is a personal choice, I don't care. But to be able to use a broken dresser, now that is creative and purposeful. Thanks for the suggestion.
