You might remember Carolyn's office redo that had us all singing her praises this past summer. Well, she's at it again creating a mid century modern inspired DIY bookshelf--let's check out the amazing "after pic" under the jump!
Carolyn takes the basic, mid-sized bookshelf and adds the legs from a mid century modern stool. Just by adding legs it instantly makes the bookshelf feel airy and light. A coat of bright white paint unifies the top and bottom and a ruler adds a bit of kitsch to the top shelf. Also--take a closer look at the back lining of the bookcase (Carolyn created a faux wood grain finish). Stay tuned tomorrow morning when we'll tell you how she achieved this fun look.

I absolutely adore that deer head! Where did you get it?
Thanks - I'll pass.
That looks cool but I don't like the white! I think it would be much better if the main color was that blue color instead of white.
I really dig the deer head too! Source! :)
There I was thinking... that bookshelf doesn't look retro! But then I saw more... she added the legs of the stool to the bookshelf! Brilliant!
love it!
I noticed over the weekend that Lowes actually has some MCM-style unfinished wood legs for cheap - in 2 different heights. They have chintzy brass caps on them, but they could be removed or cut off.
I want that deer head!
I wish I had that ottoman to recover before it got hacked. It is the perfect one I have been searching for...
Thanks for sharing my photos Beth!
The deer was found here in Nashville, at the flea market - it is hollow inside and it really heavy, perhaps made of iron?
I later found that you can purchase the mid-century style tapered leg at Ace Hardware ( http://tiny.cc/VtfKt ) as well!
Awesome! Love it.
What flea market in Nashville? Sorry, I also live in Nashville and haven't found one yet!! Well, other than THE Flea Market. Thanks!
Sunshines1301- Yes, the deer and many items on the shelf were found at THE flea market that occurs monthly at the fairgrounds.
Does anyone know where I can find the "Stay tuned tomorrow morning when we'll tell you how she achieved this fun look" part of this post? I found the part on the faux wood grain finish but nothing on how to add the legs. Thanks. :-)
