I don't think I'd ever be able to tackle this impressive DIY project, not unless my dad decides to take up carpentry when he retires. Luckily for Sarah, her father is a self-taught carpenter who was happy to help her transform an old oak door, some plywood and some wood strips into a herringbone-pattern dining table. Prepare to be jealous!

Sarah details the entire project from start to finish over at Design*Sponge. The steps sound tedious, but not impossible. Plus, the whole thing only cost around $150. The project would be especially worth it if it means some quality time with your pops!

Oh my.....that is gorgeous! Extra cool points for it being a Daddy-Daughter project - those are very special! :)
Awesomeness!
Wow. That's truly an amazing transformation!
beautiful
That's beautiful!
Incredible!!
Woooow. That is really lovely.
What skill and beauty!
Did I miss something? How was the entire thing constructed, aside from the actual top? That seems to be all that's featured. I'd like to know about the skirting around the edge of the top as well as the rest of the construction. What materials were used for the base, for instance, and how was it created?
Cool idea and really creative!!

That transformation is amazing!
unique, beautiful, amazing. There is definately a market for this table, you could produce more and sell them.
love heart love. beautiful job. my dad is a drywall finisher and i have worked with him for 9 years now, it's awesome working with your dad, and it's fantastic being taught his skills. I am thankful to have learned the trade and in my ability to do things most people are unable to do ( or do very well) i'm jealous of the wood working skill i'd love to have it!
Thanks for the mention and wonderful comments, all! @velsabeachgirl: you'll find the detailed description that we wrote on the original design sponge feature. It doesn't cover every tiny detail, but it definitely explains the process!
