When Jane and her husband bought their new house, they were less than thrilled with the outdated and sad bedroom that would be their son's nursery. The wallpaper was old, the walls were in bad shape and, to cap it off, there was a very, very skeevy bed that lived in there. Eight months pregnant, Jane got to the tedious work of stripping the wallpaper, repairing walls and then building the room back up from scratch.

Today, the nursery is a far cry from its humble beginnings. Everything is bright and clean, from the light grey walls to the subtle aqua accents. The effect is simple and classic.
Not only does the nursery look great, it cost just a tad over $400. To keep it affordable, Jane found all furniture on Craigslist. She purchased affordable decor from Ikea, discount stores and Etsy. The custom bedding is courtesy of her Mother-in-Law.
Congratulations on the nursery Jane! If you want to see more photos of the finished nursery, check out Jane's blog, Urbane Jane.

Shaw's Original Fir...
Beautiful! The blog has other photos that show the closet and some of the other artwork in the room. It looks like they also redid the baseboards, which look great, and aren't as difficult or expensive as you would think.
This looks so good, glad I found a new blog to read!
Well done on sourcing the furniture through Craigslist. So many of our friends have spent themselves silly trying to buy the newest, brightest things for their kids - kids who outgrow the furniture in a flash and don't really notice the difference.
It's an adorable makeover. But I always have to laugh when I see people deck out their nurseries with so much bric-à-brac especially with the placement of the shelves near the crib and changing table. Give that baby six months where they are sitting up and nine months when they are pulling up and reaching and that whole place is going to need to be rearranged and rehung.
We all learn. I know I did.
Beautiful
Wow! Great Transformation!! That first image IS creepy!!
Love the floor!!
This should please all the people who freak out when a nursery redo costs $1K+. Good job, on an itty bitty budget!
Beautiful redo. Light, bright and simply decorated. A refreshing contrast to the overly visual nurseries shown so frequently at AT.
At 8 months pregnant, this is not just a good job, it's a fabulous job. Truly impress but I too worry anytime I see anything over a child's crib.
This is great. I hate the amount of money people invest these days in children's rooms. Kudos to you for veering off that path.
Nice illustration of the effect of high-and-wide curtain hanging.
Wow!
This is just wonderful, and your blog really shows the entire design. You should submit it into the nursery tour section for sure!
Can't believe it's the same room!
When they get older, just put baby-friendly toys on the shelf. Could buy you an extra 15 minutes of sleep!
Perfect. I can't wait to start working on our baby's room. I'm all for re-purposing and shopping around. I love that you painted and reused the shelf.
Simply Adorable.
re-do calming except for lack of safety in placing crib so close to curtains, blinds, shelf. once baby starts to stand, it is easy to wrap curtains or blind cord @ head or drop shelf on self while reaching for toys.
Wow! Nice work. Looks professional
Gorgeous - and impressive that she got that done at 8 months pregnant! I do love to see the care people put into nurseries -- but vote for more that show a safe sleep environment (no bumpers, blankets, etc) for babies.
