British product designer Paul Cocksedge combines the material of yesterday's audio with the popularity of today's digital audio players, converting vinyl LPs into quite beautiful passive amplification accessories made through the simple process of shaping with heat...
Details from Paul Cocksedge:
Old vinyl 12" records are transformed through heating and moulding into elegant vinyl speakers which amplify sound from smartphones through their shape alone - no need for wires or electricity.
Change the Record speakers are available for sale - please email firstname.lastname@example.org for further information.
You can see a bit of the process of softening the LPs using heat and a molding stand to create the record speaker form factor above. Once finished, simply placing an iPod or similar small speaker digitial device results in a much more voluminous sound. Seems ripe for a DIY project, though you might want to hit up a thrift store for scratched, unwanted records instead of tapping into your own collection!
