This earthy room was in need of a bit of energy. Interior designer Kirsten Krason came in and saved the space. Follow me after the jump to what she stirred up…

Kirsten had a little pattern party with primary colors and brightened up this room in a big way. She kept a good amount of the furniture and added some new pieces along the journey. She splurged on a few big items like the rug, coffee table and window treatments, but then bargain hunted for other great but inexpensive finds.

Nomade Express Slee...
Beautiful!
The after is lovely but I really wish both photos were taken from the same angle with the same lighting/exposure.
Great wall color and it is amazing what lightening up the rug did!
I think it's very beautiful, but the rugs bother me. One is light and the other is bright and graphic.
The after is beautiful. However, the difference in the color of the same sofa makes it hard to tell how much camera settings influence our perception.
The after to me is a bit confusing for some of the reasons previously mentioned, like the different angles of the two shots and the camera settings.
I like the blue walls against the light-colored sofa, but the room doesn't feel pulled together. The fabric of the drapes, although pretty, seems out of place in the room. I think the blue latice print that's on the two chairs that are pushed over to the side would have been a better option. The drapery rods seem to be too long and hung at a random height. And speaking of random placements, why are those chairs placed off to the side? It seems they would serve a better purpose across from the sofa, but then again, it's hard to tell, considering the angle of the shot.
I assume that this is a rental unit, otherwise the wall-to-wall would have been removed, maybe. Unfortunately, the two rugs just seem to call attention to the carpeting underneath. I do love the sofa, though.
wasn't the sofa re-upholstered? I'm confused... love the freshness of the new blue paint but I miss the shutters. the drapes bother me immensely. pattern overkill. eeeek.
I don't understand the placement of the two chairs on their own rug right as you walk in the door. If I imagine myself sitting there, I feel uncomfortable, maybe because there is so much open space in front? The placement near the door and the distance from the sofa (not really talking distance) seems odd, but maybe I'm missing something.
Overall, I like the mix of patterns and colors and think you have to be quite clever to make that work. Was the tan sofa in the before recovered so that it is now white? If that is the same sofa, I don't trust the lighting in the before (but I still think the after looks nice).
Darn it. I hate it when I like the before picture better. Too much is going on in the after.
I like certain elements in the after including the wall color and the curtains however, I'm failing to understand the two huge rugs over carpeting. I think a better move would have been to continue to save to allow for replacing the carpet with hardwood or some other flooring. To me rugs over carpet has always looked weird.
I agree about the stange angle of these pictures--I don't quite get the placement of the two chairs on a large rug which I am assuming is right when you walk in through the front door? Hmmmm.
It's a nice photo of a room, but... I have the felling that if I were actually standing in this room, it would look like a hot mess (and not because I would be there, smart a** Or not JUST because I would be there). Too many disparate elements, nothing pulling it all together. I tend to be wary of overly matchy-matchy schemes, but something should match something else. Somewhere. Anywhere.
Gah. *feeling.
And sorry for the random whispertalics.
Definitely better, but those rugs are going to curl up all around the edges. Then you trip on them, constantly try to turn their edges back down. It's no use. They're pretty but not practical.
The giganormous clock ruins it for me. "Well well, look at the time!".
Not sure about the chair placement & think the rugs should go but otherwise I LOVE it! I especially think that giant wall clock thing is awesome.
I like the "before" and it only needed a unifying color scheme (with paint, pillows, etc) to pull it all together. The "after" is too busy for my taste and I am a fan of mixed patterns!
The chairs at right are the reviewing stand, where the queen and her consort hold up placards announcing their scores for whatever just happened in the commons.
Great job! Though that one light colored rug would have to go.As for the hardwood floor thing, unless your a clean freak or swiffer it every day,I highly recommend you stay with carpet! I put in hardwood last year and immediately regretted it,though I love the way it looks. Its dust central ! I also would have a little drinks table between the chairs,or even a small pier table.
no.
rmbnn, you summed it up PERFECTLY! Ha ha, made me laugh!!
Wow! This truly is a big mess.... Too much going on. I can't look at it any longer I am getting a headache.
