When Alisha and her husband decided the time had come to rearrange all the bedrooms in their house to better suit the needs of their growing family, they were lucky enough to have some old family favorites to help set up a new room for their toddler son that could double as a guest room when necessary. Alisha knew she wanted to reuse the beds that had belonged to her husband when he was a child, but also knew they needed an update to fit with her vision.

Beyond the red paint (and the bedding, curtains, etc), can you spot the big difference in the beds themselves?
That's right- the beds are taller in the after picture; 9 inches taller to be exact. The vintage beds were too low to allow for under the bed storage, a central part of Alisha's plan for the space. She and her husband added 9 inch table legs to the ends of the headboards and footboards to raise them up enough to accommodate storage underneath. The final product is a wonderful big boy room sure to also delight any visiting relatives, at least until that second bed is taken over by Alisha's baby daughter!

Nicely done - you should have included an image of the leg extensions here because that is what made this a very thoroughly thought-out project, imo. None of those silly plastic risers...!
^^I'd love to see that too! Great idea.
Brilliant and very well done! I love the look and what a great way to modify the furniture to fit your needs.
If you want to see the extended legs and more of the process, read the article by clicking the link in the post. There are some great photos too!
Awesome! I love the idea of reusing your childhood bed for your own children - my 3-year-old nephew is currently sleeping in his dad's old red pipeline bed.
The rest of the room looks great, too!
I might have cut off the finials for a more modern look, but that's just me.
You can go to the Sung as a Bug blog (link in story) for pics of the new bed legs. They look great, very clever!
Nice!
Great job, love the quilt too!
Gorgeous room! The beds are perfect in the room. Thanks for sharing!
Cute! Great work!
