Even if Dinis had stopped at simply cleaning up this little guy, it would be an impressive find. But the super impressive paint job is the icing on the restoration cake.
From Dinis: I found this table on a second hand site, and it looked like the perfect candidate for a great restoration; solid wood, nice straight lines and the potential for multiple uses. It had severe cigar burns and water stains, so the first step was to give it a good wash (no problem if it's solid wood) with a common dishwasher soap diluted in tepid water to wash off the dirt and grease from use, and then give it a nice sanding to remove the old "orangy" finish. Next I painted the pattern inspired by the old hydraulic tiles in the drawers, and maintained the natural color of the wood. Finally I protected and sealed it with a environment friendly semi-gloss varnish and wax.
Thank you, Dinis!
