My room makeover::
I had just bought the home from a single man and the home had unique features but lacked character. It's a beach house and I wanted to add natural elements to it. Wood trims were mismatched, and the floors were that standard amber color. The kitchen opens to the living area and was builder's grade white with awful brown Corian counters. I picked up pallet wood from a nearby store and made use of every part of them. I stripped and sanded the floors and spent 3 days staining them a mix of weathered gray and driftwood to give them that relaxed beachy feel. From the pallet wood I created a beautiful island focal piece with a white quartz counter to break up the wood. In the remainder of the kitchen I installed a walnut butcher block to balance out the white of the cabinets. With the leftover pallet wood, to add to the beach theme, using a jigsaw I created a cutout of a whale to feature on an easel in the corner of the living room.
My makeover advice::
Think outside the box. Try different things. Find a color scheme that suits your mood and personality and inspires you.
What I love most about my new space::
The energy. I've recreated the space in a way that plays off my mood. The space and colors now give me a natural indoor outdoor feeling that I long to come home to.
